Girard-Perregaux has unveiled the Calibre GP4800, a technically advanced movement that represents both cutting-edge innovation and homage to the manufacture’s storied heritage.

The compact movement measures 25.60mm in diameter with 4.28mm thickness, designed specifically for modern case sizes while maintaining the architectural DNA that has defined Girard-Perregaux since 1791. Despite its reduced dimensions, the GP4800 incorporates sophisticated technology including a complete silicon escapement featuring escape wheel, pallet lever, and roller crafted from the lightweight, non-magnetic material.

Silicon’s exceptional properties deliver significant advantages over traditional steel components. The material’s smooth surface reduces friction while its hardness and wear resistance enhance long-term reliability. These characteristics, combined with optimal shaping for maximum efficiency, contribute to superior chronometric performance and the movement’s impressive 55-hour power reserve.

The caliber features a variable-inertia balance system that replaces traditional raquette regulation. Instead of adjusting the effective length of the balance spring, four white gold timing screws mounted on the balance wheel rim allow precise rate adjustment while maintaining the spring’s fixed length. This approach, combined with an 8 mg per cm balance wheel inertia, provides enhanced shock resistance and stability.

An upgraded winding system incorporates an oscillating mass mounted on ceramic ball bearings with integrated shock absorbers. This configuration reduces winding noise while improving durability, transmitting motion through a ball-bearing clutch system that winds the mainspring barrel unidirectionally. The powerful barrel generates significant torque, contributing to both extended power reserve and improved amplitude stability.

Aesthetically, the movement honors Girard-Perregaux’s legendary heritage through three bridges inspired by Constant Girard’s revolutionary 1867 Tourbillon with Three Bridges. The skeletonized balance bridge, affixed at two points for enhanced stability, allows clear viewing of the balance wheel, spring, and silicon escapement in motion. Symmetry guides the design philosophy, reflecting Constant Girard’s architectural principles.

The finishing encompasses ten distinct decorative techniques, demonstrating the manufacture’s commitment to traditional haute horlogerie craftsmanship. Rhodium-plated bridges feature straight Côtes de Genève engraving, diamond-beveled edges, and mirror-polished screw heads. The mainplate incorporates refined sandblasted textures with “SILICIUM ESCAPEMENT” inscriptions, while hidden surfaces receive circular graining treatment.

The skeletonized 18K gold oscillating mass displays polished arrow-shaped motifs paying tribute to the original 1867 bridges, complemented by combinations of sandblasting, snailing, and traits tirés finishes. Additional elements including sunray-finished clutch components and circular satin-finished wheels underscore the blend of innovation and heritage.

The modular design allows potential integration of additional complications, positioning the GP4800 as a platform for future developments while immediately demonstrating Girard-Perregaux’s continued commitment to in-house movement development and manufacturing excellence.

The ‘Dad Reset’ is on the horizon: Megan Collins leads the charge
Men are taking ownership over what they wear and the founder of Style Girlfriend is here to help
Person, Sitting, Adult

One of the most frustrating moments in any man's style journey is when your wardrobe starts to feel stale. No matter what you do, you feel like everything you put on is old, boring, or tired. You try to switch it up. You pair it differently. It just lost its luster. The truth is, it happens to all of us. But the people who struggle with it the most are middle-aged men. With a specific focus on dads. Middle-aged men are too young to resign themselves to not caring about their look anymore. They are too old to dive into the trends with the changing of the fashion winds. So many of them throw in the towel. Add to that overwhelming feeling being a busy father, and there is just no way to spend the time and energy on rebuilding a wardrobe. That is where Megan Collins comes in. Her business, Style Girlfriend, takes men and restores their confidence from the ground up with new, elevated, and evolved stylistic choices.

When you have one outfit you love, you wear it. When you wear it, you notice how much better you feel. Then, you want another outfit that gives you that same feeling. That's how confidence builds. Not all at once, but one good decision at a time. - Megan Collins, Founder, Style Girlfriend

Shinola’s new blacked-out Mackinac Night Race revives a rare sailing complication
The Detroit brand's new limited edition puts a one-of-a-kind forged carbon dial on a yacht timer — the countdown built for sailboat starts.
Wristwatch, Arm, Rope

Shinola has made watches about Detroit, about the Apollo program, and about a lake monster. Its newest one is about a sailboat race, and damn, is it good-looking.

The Detroit-based brand is launching the Mackinac Night Race, a limited edition built around the yacht timer — the countdown complication used to time the start of a sailing race, aka one of watchmaking's more specialized tricks. The name nods to the Great Lakes maritime history the watch draws on (so not technically an official race tie-in).

The West is a statement look with TAFT’s new edit
TAFT Longhorn collection gives you a stylish look with a little western flare
Clothing, Footwear, Shoe

One of the most iconic ways a man can stand out is to make a statement with his style. Now, this isn't as easy as it sounds. Most of the time, if a man doesn't know what he is doing when he goes to make a statement, he goes overboard. Colors, patterns, textures, they can all work together or battle each other out for attention and cause problems. For instance, wearing a bright color combined with a crazy pattern can make you look more like an optical illusion than a stylish man. You look like you are cosplaying The Joker instead of methodically piecing together pieces that are working together to give an outfit depth. One of the tricks I have always loved to incorporate with my looks is a statement shoe. A typical everyday outfit can be elevated easily with a shoe standing out with color or pattern. One of my favorite brands to go to when I want to do that is TAFT. They are the best in the game for a statement shoe, and their new edit is a way to capitalize on that idea.
