The sun rises on Rolls-Royce’s new drophead convertible, dubbed ‘Dawn’

Hold onto your monocle, they’ve just named a new Rolls-Royce.

With a puff of white smoke from the chimney (I assume), Rolls-Royce announced today to a group of its dealers that it will call its next drophead model ‘Dawn.’ Oh, and, drophead, if you’re not up to snuff on Briticisms, is Rolls for convertible.

Aside from being the tingliest time of the day, if Rolls’ press release is to be believed, the name means much more than morning time. The moniker was first applied to a very select few Rollers starting in 1949.

In fact, Rolls-Royce christened only 28 drophead bodies ‘Dawn’ in total between 1950 and 1954 (pictured above). Adding further significance to the name, the original Silver Dawn was the first Roller to receive a factory-built body.

Even if you’re not the Sultan of Brunei, the CEO of Go-Pro, or a Kardashian, this should still be very exciting news. Even if you never get to drive the Dawn, you should be quite jazzed, for no other automaker can quite do a ‘vert like Rolls. After all, the current Phantom Drophead features a yacht-like teak rear decking, which can bring grown men to tears.

If you’re wanting more info on the Dawn, you’ll have to wait with bated breath with the rest of us, because Rolls isn’t giving up the beans … yet. All it has revealed is that the model will launch during the first quarter of next year.

Until then, we’re left with speculation. Luckily for you, I am a speculation mastermind, which might explain my being woefully single. But I digress.

The 2017 Rolls-Royce dawn will likely be underpinned by the Wraith platform, essentially making it a Wraith Drophead … why Rolls didn’t go with that, I don’t know. And, like the Wraith, the Dawn will likely be powered by a V12 and have more cushiony cowhide than Texas.

We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled on the horizon. As soon as we see even the slightest hint of the Dawn, we’ll be sure to bring it to you. So check back often.

We’re only a few months away from our new Bond, Producer Amy Pascal teases

Since Daniel Craig bit the big one in his James Bond swan song in 2021’s No Time to Die, fans have been waiting to find out who the next person to drink the martini shaken instead of stirred will be. In true Bond fandom fashion, a whole slew of fancasts have started to muddle the waters as to who could possibly be the new 007. Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and more have all been pitched as possible replacements. Some more ethnically diverse options like Henry Golding and Rene Jean-Page have also emerged. But, alas, no word has come down from on high to give us the scratch to this fan itch raging on for the last five years. That is, until Producer Amy Pascal sat down during her Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour and gave a bit of insight on when we can expect an announcement, and also what we can expect in the cast.

Earlier this year, I was strolling the streets of New York and ended up sitting in the Carnegie Club with an Old Fashioned in one hand and a cigar in the other while My Way by Frank Sinatra played from a speaker flanking leather-bound books behind the couch I had been using as my perch. For the better part of two decades, perhaps even more, corruption has allegedly run rampant within FIFA. Sepp Blatter, in particular, became the face of alleged extortion schemes, and he operated with impunity while at the helm of the organization for 17 years, from 1998 until his forced resignation in 2015 amid an FBI corruption probe. He’s banned for life from all football-related FIFA activities. If you’re new to the organization’s alleged deep connection to corruption, Netflix offers a brilliant 2022 documentary, FIFA Uncovered. In that documentary, Gianni Infantino appears in his previous capacity as Secretary General of UEFA (2009-2016) and later as the newly elected FIFA president, who vowed to root out corruption and hand the beautiful game back to the people where it belongs.

That, as it turns out, was all wishful thinking.
