Samsonite Gets Tough with New Kevlar-Reinforced SXK Line of Bags

Chances are, we don’t need to tell you that Samsonite is a reliable brand when it comes to bags and luggage. The name recognition is well-earned; Samsonite products are well-built, long-lasting, and thoughtfully designed. After over 100 years in business, you wouldn’t think there would be much left that the company hasn’t done — but you’d be wrong.

For the first time in over a century, Samsonite has released a line of travel and lifestyle bags that are reinforced with Kevlar, the very same material used in bulletproof vests and bicycle tires because of its intense-yet-lightweight strength.

The new SXK line includes five pieces, all built with a tough exterior of nylon reinforced with DuPont Kevlar and designed with all the organizational and security features you’ve come to expect from Samsonite. The Amped Duffel is perfect for weekend getaways, with a padded shoulder strap, interior and exterior pockets, magnetic release sliders for easy one-hand closure, a removable storage bag, and a Smartsleeve feature that lets you slip it conveniently over the handle of most upright luggage. The Core Messenger Bag includes specially designed tech compartments to keep your laptop or tablet secure during travel, multiple pockets to keep small accessories handy, and an RFID data vault to keep sensitive essentials safe.

Also included in the series are three backpacks. The Slim backpack is ideal for everyday use, with dedicated laptop and tablet compartments, multiple pockets, an easy-access RFID protected lumbar pocket, and mesh back and shoulder padding to keep you comfortable and cool. The Prime Expandable Backpack is great if you need extra space, including all the Slim Backpack’s features but adding a 1.5-inch expansion on all four sides for added packing capacity. Finally, the Roll Top Backpack stacks on even more features, with a full-length side zipper for easy access and a zippered side pocket that’s perfect for stashing a water bottle.

Aside from the added strength and durability of Kevlar, the entire line also boasts a sleek black and silver exterior and glass filled nylon zipper pulls that are extra durable. All five bags are available now, and with a bounty of protective and convenience features, they’re a definite upgrade to your existing bag stash.

Report: This is how much you should expect airfare to cost for your summer travel
You may want to travel domestically this summer
airplane in blue sky

Thinking about booking a weekend getaway or a week's long, unplugged, get-me-out-of-here-right-this-minute trip, the first thing on your mind is probably, "How much is this going to set me back?" It can often be a deal breaker on how long you can go, where you are traveling, and if you can afford to go at all.

While the airlines have certainly changed their flight prices post-COVID, the cost of airfare for this summer may surprise you. Travel booking site Hopper came out with a report that breaks down how much flyers can expect to pay based on location, and it also includes some good intel on hotels and car rentals as well. The bottom line: It's going to cost you to unwind. Cheap airfare will be hard to come by.
How much will a trip cost this summer?
According to their report, average round-trip air ticket prices to Europe increased over last year to the tune of $1,167 versus $850 last year. If Asia is on your bucket list, the news is equally dismal. The average round-trip ticket is coming in at $1,817, compared to only $917 during the summer of 2020. Even going to Canada will cost you more, 2% higher than last year and up 11% over 2019.

This gothy hotel in Mexico City is perfect for art lovers
This Mexico City hotel is gothy and luxurious
Umbral Hotel in Mexico City.

There are plenty of hotels in Mexico City, but only one gives off vibes like it’s where Batman stays when he visits town: Umbral Hotel, in the city’s Zocalo district. That may seem like a very specific description, but it’s apt, for – whether intentional or not – Umbral has a decidedly gothy style that lends it one of my favorite aesthetics I’ve seen at any hotel anywhere.

Gothy yet luxurious: just my type.

These 7 things are actually worth paying extra for on your cruise vacation
You'll enjoy your cruise more with these extras
Quark Expeditions Ultramarine cruise

If you're thinking about going on a cruise vacation for the first time, it can be overwhelming looking at all of the various options cruise lines have available. While there are a ton of things included, like buffets, drinks, shows, and nightlife, there are always upgrades to make your cruise more enjoyable. It really depends on what you prioritize on vacations and how that upgrade can make your time on the water and in port the best it can be. We've looked at a number of upgrade options for cruises and found seven that we think are worth the extra money. After all, this is your time away to relax, unwind, and treat yourself, so why not?
Food and beverages
If you love nothing more than to travel to experience new culinary experiences, upgrading your food and drink package may be worth it. While it may seem like you'll get enough with buffets, in-room dining, and restaurant menus, a truly unique and upgraded experience is perfect for the foodie or wine enthusiast. It can also wash out if you plan to let loose, as some cruise bars charge $10 to $15 plus tax and gratuity for each cocktail you order. Most packages are unlimited for both food and beverage if you upgrade, so it takes the guesswork out of adding up all those charges in your head.

Portside cabanas
If your goal is to have sun in the fun, we recommend paying extra for private or semi-private cabanas. This gives you more space and freedom to enjoy your day at the beach without feeling crowded in with everyone else. You spend enough time with people onboard, it's nice to have some privacy while you enjoy time in whatever port you are visiting.
