Samsonite Gets Tough with New Kevlar-Reinforced SXK Line of Bags

Chances are, we don’t need to tell you that Samsonite is a reliable brand when it comes to bags and luggage. The name recognition is well-earned; Samsonite products are well-built, long-lasting, and thoughtfully designed. After over 100 years in business, you wouldn’t think there would be much left that the company hasn’t done — but you’d be wrong.

For the first time in over a century, Samsonite has released a line of travel and lifestyle bags that are reinforced with Kevlar, the very same material used in bulletproof vests and bicycle tires because of its intense-yet-lightweight strength.

The new SXK line includes five pieces, all built with a tough exterior of nylon reinforced with DuPont Kevlar and designed with all the organizational and security features you’ve come to expect from Samsonite. The Amped Duffel is perfect for weekend getaways, with a padded shoulder strap, interior and exterior pockets, magnetic release sliders for easy one-hand closure, a removable storage bag, and a Smartsleeve feature that lets you slip it conveniently over the handle of most upright luggage. The Core Messenger Bag includes specially designed tech compartments to keep your laptop or tablet secure during travel, multiple pockets to keep small accessories handy, and an RFID data vault to keep sensitive essentials safe.

Also included in the series are three backpacks. The Slim backpack is ideal for everyday use, with dedicated laptop and tablet compartments, multiple pockets, an easy-access RFID protected lumbar pocket, and mesh back and shoulder padding to keep you comfortable and cool. The Prime Expandable Backpack is great if you need extra space, including all the Slim Backpack’s features but adding a 1.5-inch expansion on all four sides for added packing capacity. Finally, the Roll Top Backpack stacks on even more features, with a full-length side zipper for easy access and a zippered side pocket that’s perfect for stashing a water bottle.

Aside from the added strength and durability of Kevlar, the entire line also boasts a sleek black and silver exterior and glass filled nylon zipper pulls that are extra durable. All five bags are available now, and with a bounty of protective and convenience features, they’re a definite upgrade to your existing bag stash.

JD Power releases its 2025 North America Airline Satisfaction Study—what to know
Airplane night takeoff

Global consumer insights company J.D. Power has released its 2025 North American Airline Satisfaction study, showing a mix of trends and changes. Among the findings are decreasing domestic passenger volume through Q1 2025, and consumer confidence levels are the lowest since the pandemic. Airlines are also adding fees for seat selection, baggage handling, and more. However, there are some positive takeaways, with passenger satisfaction rising six points (on a 1,000-point scale) compared to 2024.

The 2025 study considered responses from 10,224 passengers. To participate, passengers must have flown on a major domestic carrier within the prior month. The study took place between March 2024 and March 2025.

Mexico just added a tax for cruise passengers: What it means for your trip
Visiting Mexico by cruise ship? You'll soon have to pay up
Carnival Cruise ship

Cruise passengers heading to Mexico will soon be paying a little more. Starting July 1, 2025, the Mexican government will implement a new head tax for travelers arriving at the country’s ports by cruise ship. The initial fee is set at $5 per person and will apply to all cruise guests entering Mexico, a move that comes as part of a broader agreement between the cruise industry and Mexican officials.

Mexico is one of the world’s most popular cruise destinations, with hotspots like Cozumel drawing millions of travelers annually. The new tax replaces a previously proposed $42 fee that was originally scheduled to go into effect this summer. After pushback from cruise lines and tourism advocates, a compromise was reached, resulting in a more gradual rollout of smaller fees.
