September 18, 2004: An early morning flight under a thin overcast layer revealed this quilt-like vista southwest of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Fall is an amazing time in farm country. For most of the year, fields tend to be the same color when viewed from above: white in winter, brown in spring, green during the summer. But the fall harvest brings out an amazing variety of color across the landscape. I suspect that the overhead cloud layer and low angle of the morning sun may have contributed a quality of light that accentuated the color differences more than usual.Heartless Bastards’ fifth album, titled Restless Ones and coming out June 16th via Partisan Records, reveals an experienced group fully in touch with one another’s abilities. The band’s sound remains within their roots rock wheelhouse but betrays no lack of creativity.

“Hi-Line,” Restless Ones‘ fourth track, is straightforward alt-country given an extra jolt thanks to vocalist Erika Wennerstrom’s voice and lyrics. The track, along with the rest of the album, sees her exploring as-yet-unvisited avenues of sound and sensation, her bravery and ambition readily apparent in the emotional timbre and the sheer physicality of her songs.

The Heartless Bastards - "Highline"

“Hi-Line” is surrounded by two of the catchiest tracks on the album, “Black Cloud” and “Journey.” Both songs, like much of the album, deal with personal realizations Wennerstrom had in the time between the release of Heartless Bastard’s previous album, Arrow, and the recording of Restless Ones. “Black Cloud” features the lines, “I had spun out and filled myself with doubt. I was standing in the doorway with the key to my own suffering, and I said to myself, ‘There’s no use trying to be what you want me to be,” while “Journey’s” reminds the listener that the “journey is the destination.”

Black Cloud

These are familiar sentiments, and as the saying goes, “familiarity breeds contempt.” It is simple to be contemptuous of those feelings, but Wennerstrom’s voice does not allow for it. These mantras are true for Wennerstrom, and the power in her singing communicates not just the idea but the experience, too.

The band released the music video for the album’s first single, “Gates of Dawn,” on May 14 and Restless Ones comes out June 16 on Partisan Records. The video is viewable below, and the album is available for preorder on Amazon, iTunes, and Partisan.

Will Quarterback season 2 happen?
What we know so far about a potential second season for Quarterback
The poster for season 1 of Quarterback

After a hugely successful first season on Netflix, Quarterback seemed like a sure bet for a second season. The show, which documented three NFL quarterbacks (Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota) as they prepared for the upcoming season, was a unique insight into the lives of professional athletes and also gave us a look at the personal lives of people who we usually only see wearing helmets.

Now, though, that second season is in doubt, as there's been no official confirmation that the season is coming from Netflix. Here's what we know about whether there will be a second season, and if there is, who might be involved.

The 8 best Davidoff cigars I’ve tried and tested in 2024
Davidoff Escurio and Aniversario cigars up close by Briley Kenney from The Manual

Davidoff cigars are first-rate, and you'll rarely, if ever, find a poorly constructed stick. There's a reason for that, and it's analogous to the brand's history. Its founder, Zino Davidoff, is renowned for prioritizing quality and craftsmanship. To understand his dedication, let's take a quick look back at history.
A brief history of Davidoff

A young Zino Davidoff became fascinated with creating his own cigars.  But unlike his family, namely his father, who had already been in the industry for years, Zino wanted to do things a little differently. He traveled the world, visiting South and Central America and, of course, Cuba, studying and working with cigars directly. Around the 1930s, he pursued an official license and began his legacy, borrowing everything he learned to craft his own cigars, including the growing conditions he observed in Cuba.

This Amazon Prime crime show just got a second season — before it even debuts
Amazon Prime Video is betting on this new series
Amazon Prime Video logo on blue.

In an era when more and more studios and streaming services are cutting costs, it can be surprising to see a studio be so confident in a property that they give it multiple seasons before a single episode has aired. In the case of Amazon Prime Video's new series, Cross, though, that's exactly what happened.

The show, which is based on James Patterson's best-selling novels about a detective and forensic pathologist who analyzes the minds of killers as he works to catch them, has been renewed for a second season before its first season has premiered. The show stars Aldis Hodge as Alex Cross and also stars Ryan Eggold, Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Johnny Ray Gill, Eloise Mumford and Siobhan Murphy.
