American single malt whiskey has only recently become an officially recognized category, but Stranahan’s has been crafting it for two decades. Now, the iconic, award-winning brand has announced the oldest Colorado bottled-in-bond whiskey ever made. And yes, it’s single malt whiskey.
Stranahan’s American Single Malt Whiskey: Bottled-in-Bond
This unique, 11-year-old American single malt is not only the brand’s first bottle-in-bond whiskey, but it was crafted to pay tribute to both Colorado’s 150th birthday and America’s 250th. Made using the rules set by the 1897 Bottled-in-Bond Act, this limited-edition expression was distilled in a single season, matured in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at a potent 100 proof.
According to Stranahan’s, the result is a memorable, balanced whiskey that begins with aromas of candied apples, baked orchard fruit, pipe tobacco, fresh leather, clover, and caramelized sugar. The palate features flavors like toffee, cracked black pepper, dark chocolate, molasses candy, and oaky wood. The finish is long, lingering, and ends with a mix of cocoa, oak, and fresh spearmint. Like your favorite single malt, this is best enjoyed neat or with a splash or two of water to open up the aromas and flavors.

Stranahan’s American Single Malt Whiskey: Bottled-in-Bond is currently available at the brand’s Denver distillery as well as Stranahan’s Whiskey Lodge in Aspen and at select whiskey retailers in Colorado, California, Texas, and Florida for the suggested retail price of $159.99. It will be available for purchase on the Stranahan’s website later this year.
