How to make the Spiced Carajillo, a prime dessert cocktail

A hispanic cocktail that makes for a perfect nightcap

Spiced Carajillo cocktail.
Licor 43

Eager for a good nightcap recipe that’s a little off the beaten path? Great, because we’ve got one from a lesser-known liqueur brand with an 80-year pedigree. It’s a great cocktail to cap a meal and even better on a chilly fall or winter night.

Best, it’s a three-ingredient cocktail, meaning it’s a cinch to make and can be done a next to no time. The drink produces a cool fade and while served cold, produces a thawing quality. And the cinnamon stick garnish adds presentation points and can also be used as a stirrer.

We’ve featured on recipes of the Spiced Carajillo cocktail before, but this one is a bit different. It comes directly from the team at Licor 43. Read on.

This drink fully takes advantage of Licor 43, with its smooth demeanor and notes of citrus, spice, and vanilla. Feel free to play around with the kinds of coffee and chai at your disposal to dial-in your ideal flavor profile.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 ounces Licor 43 Original
  • 1 1/2 ounces espresso
  • 3/4 ounce chai tea
  • Cinnamon stick for garnish

Method:

  1. Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice, shake and pour into a glass with ice.
  2. Garnish with cinnamon stick.

Licor 43 is inspired by an ancient Mediterranean recipe believed to be some 2,000 years old. The first bottling occurred in 1946 in Cartagena, Spain, where it continues to be made. Per the name, Licor 43 is made with 43 ingredients as part of a recipe that’s been passed down from generation to generation.
