Von Doren Watches Take Minimalism to New Heights

Let’s be honest — whether you’re in a classy, three piece get-up or commanding a casual look, watches more often than not rely on aesthetics than they do functionality.

We’ve moved into a moment of versatility, one that tells time with flair and allure. Hailing from Norway, the Viking Art Nouveau inspired watch series Von Doren is here to keep you up to the times.

Over the last year or so we’ve seen many minimalist watch designs hit the market. So much in fact, that we’ve reached saturation point; but, for good reason. The minimal design route opens up a whole new dimension of distinction to your style. Von Doren plays with that idea and succeeds with persistence.

Guided by the pristine natural setting in the Norwegian city of Aalesund, a successful Kickstarter campaign has created a tasteful timepiece collection that flaunts clean lines and a wide, vintage styled dial.

Tribeca Filmmaker Øyvind VonDoren Asbjornsen, known for the film MAGNUS about World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen, created the Von Doren watch series.

“Since I was 12, I’ve always wanted to design a special timepiece, having inherited my great Grandfather’s luxury Swiss watch,” said Asbjornsen.

This fantastic work of art also incorporates the Viking rune No. 12 into the watches’ dial. Asbjornsen included this feature in the new collection because this symbol was believed to be a good luck charm for the ancient Vikings. Hey, we can all be a little -stitious sometimes.

The Von Doren series is made from 316L surgical stainless steel, measuring 42mm cross and 8mm high. It also features a 20mm Italian handcrafted leather strap, screw-in case back, and is water resistant to 5 ATM.

The watch also sports luminescence hands, a double dome Sapphire crystal glass with scratch resistant AR coating, and Ronda Swiss Powertech 5 series movement.

The Von Doren Kickstarter campaign reached it’s goal of NOK200,000 (Approximately $22,900 USD) in less than 10 days of the initial launch. As you can see from these photos, this capsule is truly a classy covet. All watches range from $456 to $489 and extra straps can be purchased to have a diverse selection. Plus, they’re all delivered worldwide, for free. Pick yours out over at Von Doren’s website.

Get the look: How to get Travis Kelce’s style (without a stylist)
It's more than khakis and flannels, guys
Travis Kelce

While Taylor Swift didn’t exactly put Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on the map, she’s helped place his style in the spotlight. Recently, Kelce’s outfits have caught the eye of fashion enthusiasts enjoying his out-of-the-box outfits, which are a substantial departure from the typical styling we see from athletes. Instead of polished suits and sleek black pieces, Kelce rocks washed denim suits and sports the seasonal shawl cardigans that play into his more creative side. And while "Swifties" enjoy getting to know the Super Bowl champion’s style week after week, this isn’t new for Kelce.

A glance at Travis Kelce’s Instagram shows that this athlete is anything but your run-of-the-mill footballer. Besides his insane and established talent on the field, Kelce and his team have mastered the art of styling, whether it’s bold prints or bright colors off the field. Not afraid of making a statement, Kelce is the prime example of how to ditch the typical look of an athlete and have fun experimenting with fashion.

It’s sweater vest season, and these are our favorites
From casual to classy, we've got some great picks for you
Ralph Lauren sweater vest

Gentlemen, brace yourselves — it's the season of sartorial elegance, and sweater vests are the undisputed champions of refined fashion. Shameless star Jeremy Allen White was seen rocking a blue Lacoste sweater vest as he strolled through the Los Angeles farmers market, pairing it with a pair of Adidas Sambas. The vintage look took us back to days after school watching reruns of Boy Meets World when our favorite Topanga-loving Corey Matthews set the trend way back in the early-aughts. And, of course, we can't mention sweater vests without being reminded of the late Matthew Perry character Chandler Bing, who was really the only one on Friends who could pull off the look with flair.

In a world where fashion meets functionality, sweater vests have staged a triumphant comeback, gracing runways and celebrity wardrobes alike. But this isn't your grandpa's knit; it's a revival, revamped, and more audacious than ever.

Would you wear these McDonald’s-inspired Crocs?
Now, you can dress like the Hamburglar
Crocs and McDonalds Hamburglar

Crocs are some of the most divisive items in fashion. Some people think they are the pinnacle of functional comfort. You can wear them anywhere in place of sandals and they are waterproof, comfortable, and keep your feet cool in warm weather. If you're feeling squirrelly, you can even put them in sport mode when you are ready to feign athleticism. The other side of the debate sees Crocs as children's shoes. While they may be functional, they tend to look best in middle schools and high schools.

While we can admit that we see credibility to both sides of the debate, there's no doubt that the footwear company has done a great job of inserting itself into today's cultural zeitgeist. One of the ways it accomplished this feat is by using kitschy ideas and collaborations. Earlier this season, Crocs released some pretty interesting cowboy boots. Now, it has teamed up with one of the most iconic fast-food chains in the world -- the one associated with Ronald McDonald.
