Paulin Watches dives in with its elegant new Mara timepiece

The Paulin Mara: A minimalist dive watch with 300m capability

The Paulin Mara
Paulin Watches

Independent horology is often times where the most innovative and creative designs are born, and Paulin Watches is one brand that has made the bold decision to redefine the boundaries to leave their own unique take amongst watch aficionados. The Edinburgh-based watchmaker is known for delivering minimalist timepieces that serve up mid-century modernity, but with their latest release, Paulin has made a triumphant deviation from the expected that has surprised insiders and exceeded expectations. The Mara has the privilege of being the first dive watch produced by the brand, a versatile timepiece that walks a steady but fine line between rugged cool and refined elegance. Watch enthusiasts will still find Paulin’s architectural mastery in top form in this model as it lives up to their own high standards. The Mara (Scottish Gaelic for ‘of the sea,’) is dynamic, robust, and visually stunning – continuing the brand’s evolving narrative and building upon their already illustrious history.

A design narrative combining the very best in form and function

Purpose serves as the main tenet for Paulin Watches’ latest design, and it features the trademark design language the brand is celebrated for. The aesthetic translates well into their first dive watch: the sun-brushed dial, available in a deep oceanic blue or matte black, offers a striking legibility that is critical for underwater functionality. The bold, applied geometric indices and faceted hands feature Super-LumiNova, ensuring a vibrant glow in even darker conditions. Encased in a sleek 38.5mm stainless steel case, the Mara presents a contemporary, wearable proportion that looks great in a boardroom or deep diving and exploring a coral reef. The unidirectional bezel, featuring engraved numerals and luminous pip, operates with a precise action, confirming its serious intent as a professional diving instrument.

Robust engineering and slim profiles

The Mara is making its stance as a true tool watch be known, boasting an impressive 300 meters of water resistance, a specification that immediately places it within the upper echelons of dive watches in its class. This exceptional performance serves up elevated elegance, thanks to a deceptively slim case profile that glides effortlessly under a cuff. Powered by La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement in its soigné grade, and operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it yields reliable accuracy and brings a 68-hour power reserve for Swiss-caliber precision and durability. The watch offers two options: a custom-molded HNBR rubber strap or Tide fabric strap, produced from recycled fishing nets, lined with Italian Alcantara,

Paulin successfully conquers new territory in horology

With the Mara, Paulin Watches has created a confident, sophisticated, and captivating timepiece that retains the brand’s core identity while showcasing impressive horological prowess. For the discerning collector seeking a high-performance dive watch that offers understated luxury and design integrity, the Mara stands as a dynamic entry into the market.

The Surprising Connection Between Luxury Watches and Sneakers
How Collecting Became a Market
Wristwatch, Arm, Body Part

Back in the day, as in pre-2020 (which, let’s be honest, still feels like it was a year ago), collecting was so much simpler. You bought a watch simply because you liked the dial or the way it glittered on your wrist. You bought a pair of sneakers because you thought they made you look like your favorite athlete. Or, maybe there was satisfaction in knowing they might be worth more someday (though we’re still waiting on all those Beanie Babies to go up in price too). Then came 2020, and we all know what happened then.

When the world shut down, people found themselves with too much time on their hands, more disposable income since there was nowhere to spend money, and a collectibles boom erupted forth like a volcano. Watches and sneakers were no longer just hobbies; they were actual markets. Rolex prices jumped up to outrageous heights, and then later fell like a lead balloon. The frenzy became so intense that, after peaking in April 2022, an index of popular Rolex models tracked by WatchCharts would later fall 21%, according to Morgan Stanley.

Adopt your Wimbledon Whites with these stellar summer pieces
Summer is the time for the all white ensemble, take your lead from the best of the best on the court
Adult, Male, Man

The Wimbledon Championships are the oldest of the four Grand Slam tournaments. They have been around since the late 1800s, and if you know anything about events that old, they are steeped in customs and traditions. While I am a huge fan of customs and traditions, I have always thought it odd when players of high-octane sports wear white. It feels like keeping sweat stains would be an utter nightmare. Having said that, Wimbledon requires all participants to wear white. It is what has come to be called the Wimbledon Whites. Now, I am also a huge fan of dressing the part, so I will confess to being guilty of planning an all-white ensemble just in case I ever land an invite to the most prestigious tennis match in the world. Now, if you are cooler than I and have already landed an invite to the tournament, then I have put together the elements of the perfect Wimbledon look.
