The Best Men’s Formal Spring and Summer Fashion (Video)

For most of us, spring has finally sprung! For those still dealing with scarves and felt hats, you can at least feign warmer weather with these cocktails.

Regardless of what Mother Nature has in store, retailers have rolled out their lighter weight lines and we are ready to shop. Brooks Brothers is a favorite here at The Manual. The brand offers awesome heritage (Brooks Brothers is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year), quality pieces, and great prices. We also love that the company owns and operates three manufacturing facilities in the United States. That’s right — all of the Original Polo Button Downs, tailored clothing, and ties are made right here in the U.S.

We visited the Portland, Oregon store and met with store manager William Smith to hear more about their key pieces for spring.

What to Look for This Season

Lightweight suits: The new BrooksCool collection is super breathable and has great stretch. Perfect for traveling (hello, Portofino!) and even biking to work.

Irish linen pants: Linen is always a favorite for warmer weather and these pants can work for casual Fridays at the office or weekend wandering on a humid day.

Nautical stripes: While we don’t want to overdo it on this trend, a chunky shawl collar sweater is just the ticket for cool morning walks on the beach.

Seersucker: This lightweight cotton is always in fashion at Brooks Brothers. This season, however, the brand has used seersucker for shorts, shirts, bomber jackets, even a bathrobe (very Jay Gatsby). What we love the most is that you can find the fabric minus the traditional stripes. Gingham seersucker? A new classic is born.

Looking for something a little more casual? We’ve got you covered.

The Best Men’s Dress Shoes for Any Business Casual or Formal Fit
best mens dress shoes everything you need to know about 2021

Are you looking forward to a specific special occasion in order to show off your style? If you are, be sure to grab this opportunity to elevate your style game with a pair of men’s shoes, specifically dress shoes. Of course, it all comes down to understanding the basics.

There are various types of dress shoes, ranging from Derbies to Chukka boots. And, understandably, it can be confusing to learn about what makes each style tick. That's why we created a comprehensive guide to men’s dress shoes, containing brief information about each type and a few roundups from some of our favorite men’s online clothing stores.
Oxfords
These are the most common, classic, and timeless styles of dress shoes. If you’re looking for something like a one-and-done pair to pair with all your formal attire, then this style might be it. While Oxfords and Derbies can look similar, they differ by their shoelace tabs. Oxfords feature a closed lacing system that only opens at the top. The line down the middle of the laces will be a “V” shape, as opposed to two parallel lines. This makes the silhouette of the shoe slimmer, more streamlined, and therefore more formal.

The Best Men’s Summer Socks To Slip Slip Your Toes Into
Sink Your Toes into the Best Summer Socks of 2019

The very last thing on your mind right now might be summer socks. After all, it's simply too hot to wear socks, and you'd rather be at the beach or the lake kicked back, sans socks, yes? That's a daily pipe dream for most of us, and back here in the real world, summer socks are still a necessity and an essential. The best pairs blend lightweight style and comfort with functionality for most every situation.

You've got your no-show socks, ideal for wearing with low-top sneakers or slip-on sneakers. You've got socks made to wear with hiking boots or sneaker boots, and even socks you can wear with chukka boots when things cool off just a little bit. The best part about all of this is the fact that the same brands you wear during fall and winter also make seasonally friendly socks at prices that won't break the bank.

The global pandemic has upended the fashion industry, leaving no facet of it untouched – from how clothes are made, distributed, sold and, of course – as all of us will have experienced recently – even affecting the choices we make on how to dress (hello, lockdown athleisure).

But the health crisis has also further exposed what we already knew: That the current fashion system and how it operates continue to fail us and the environment. So, now that it’s time to dress up again, it might be worth reconsidering our own role and the personal impact this has on the vicious clothing manufacturing cycle.
