In its third collaboration with G-SHOCK, Bamford London has applied its trademark blue accent to the 5600 Square Case model. This new model is the first to be constructed using an improved steel case, thus creating an opportunity for design advancement from the previously successful (and sold-out) two collaborations between the two brands. The watch will initially be released via a Soho Pop-Up December 5-8. After which it will be available to purchase more widely from December 9 at a cost of £279.
Through Bamford’s British Design Aesthetic, the G-SHOCK x BAMFORD 5600 Square Case Watch combines G-SHOCK’s Shock Resistant Architecture with the Refined Detailing of BAMFORD. In describing the three collaborations as a “Trinity,” BAMFORD Founder George Bamford explains that the steel case is the next evolutionary step for the partnership.
From December 5-8, G-SHOCK and BAMFORD will transform Meera Newsagents located at 11 Marshall Street into a Japanese-inspired retail space, based on the concept of a Japanese Convenience Store or “Konbini.” Through the use of one-of-a-kind packaging such as cereal boxes and tin cans, the brands demonstrate how they approach presenting high-end products as collectible items. Exclusive G-SHOCK x BAMFORD apparel, accessories, and limited-edition gift items are only available for sale at the POP-UP and will be made available to the public after the POP-UP closes.
The POP-UP is open 1pm-7pm December 5th; 12pm-6pm Decembers 6-7; and 1pm-5pm December 8th. The temporary retail space reflects the Japanese-inspired retail environment that was used in the design of the POP-UP, yet features the products resulting from the collaboration in uniquely designed packaging.
The G-SHOCK x BAMFORD 5600 Square Case will be available for sale on-line December 9 via www.g-shock.com and at all authorized G-SHOCK retailers including Chisholm Hunter, Beaverbrooks, Goldsmiths, Dover Street Market, and Selfridges. At a price of £279, the watch provides the improved steel case upgrade and Bamford-designed product details while maintaining a price that is accessible to consumers.
The 5600 square case was introduced by G-SHOCK in 1983 and represented the first of what would become the iconic square digital case format. To date over 130 million G-SHOCK watches have been sold worldwide, and the 5600 remains one of the most recognizable case designs within the G-SHOCK family. The three limited-edition collaborations created with BAMFORD have built upon the heritage established by the original 5600, through the incorporation of color-blocking and the selection of materials that create distinct differences between the limited-edition models and those produced for mass-market distribution.
