The Frightnrs Say It All on ‘Nothing More to Say’

frightnrs 2016 has seen Daptone Records expanding on the classic soul sound for which the label is best known. In June, the label’s imprint, Wick Records, released the debut album from The Mystery Lights. In similar fashion to Daptone’s soul records, the self-titled record consisted of songs that recalled the fuzzy, psychedelic sound of mid-60s garage rock. On September 2nd, Daptone took another step outside the soul box with the release The Frightnrs’ excellent debut-full length, Nothing More to Say.

The Frightnrs’ music echoes the same era of Daptone’s other artists, but rather than pulling specifically from soul or garage rock the band has a vintage rocksteady sound. A shared love of rocksteady led Dan Klein and Chuck Patel to form The Frightnrs with Rich Terrana and Patel’s brother, Preet in 2010. Chuck Patel offered, “Rocksteady was the first style of Jamaican music that Dan and me fell in love with, and the idea of making a classic album for a classic label like Daptone was a dream come true.”

Hey Brother (Do Unto Others)

Formed in 2010 in Queens, NY, the band played in clubs around New York for years, honing their craft. The band eventually caught the attention of Victor Axelrod, and he produced their 2015 EP, Inna Lovers Quarrel (released on Mad Decent). It was through Axelrod that The Frightnrs and Daptone were able to come together, and with Axelrod at the helm on the production side of things, Nothing More to Say was born.

Unfortunately for the band, not long into the recording process of Nothing More To Say Dan Klein started experiencing health problems. Shortly thereafter the singer was diagnosed with ALS. Klein persevered, however, and finished the recording process. Sadly, he did not live to see the record’s release. Klein died in June 2016. Listening to him sing on Nothing More to Say it is hard to imagine that he was ill at all.

The Frightnrs’ Nothing More to Say is out now via Daptone Record and is available on Amazon, iTunes, and Daptone’s website.

The best shows and movies to watch on Apple TV Plus in March
Apple TV+ has an impressive library that includes great movies and shows
Austin Butler in Masters of the Air.

When computer company Apple announced that it was getting into the streaming TV game, there were plenty of people who were skeptical about the company's ability to pull it off. Why would the tech giant, which is most known for the Macintosh and the iPhone, have any credibility in making television shows? It doesn't seem the two ideas would mesh in any meaningful way, but in the years since Apple TV Plus launched, the company has come up with some pretty impressive original shows, and it picked up a Best Picture Oscar on top of that.
What's even more impressive is that these Apple TV shows and movies run the gamut from comedy to drama, and are all set in wildly different and imaginative places. Apple may be best known for making great phones, but it turns out it knows how to tell pretty interesting stories, too. These Apple TV movies and shows are the cream of the crop and the best on this streaming service.

What does ‘No Contest’ mean in UFC? A simple explanation
ufc 271 channel adesanya vs whittaker head to

A no contest decision in UFC fighting can seem fairly confusing if you don't know how things can play out. Simply put, a no contest ruling means that neither of the fighters can be declared the winner. This may sound initially unfair, but like many rules in sports it will once you know the basics. We thought we'd help you out by providing some insight into what it means and how it affects the outcome. While a UFC bout can end via submission, technical knockout, knockout, forfeit, judges' decision, and disqualification, no contest can also happen once in a while.
What is a UFC 'No Contest' decision?
Effectively, a no contest tends to happen due to reasons which are outside of at least one of the fighter's control. This can include an accidental illegal strike that results in an injury such as a mistaken eye poke which can force a competitor to withdraw from the fight. If that happens, neither fighter wins and the bout ends. However, if it is found that the illegal strike was intentional then the bout ends with a forfeit and a loss against the person who inflicted the injury.

A no contest can also be due to a fighter sustaining an injury in the middle of the fight due to an accidental foul. This decision is up to the referee who must decide on the severity of the injury at the time. The referee also plays a role in the case of double knockouts, ring issues, and third-party interventions in the bout, and can also be forced to rule the fight as a no contest in these cases.
