Shortcut: The App That Brings the Barber to You

Most grooming establishments maintain hours that don’t work for the average working stiff. For the 9-5 guy who prefers to leave his grooming needs in the hands of a professional, getting a haircut usually means spending a lunch hour or a precious weekend afternoon planted in the barber chair. Until now.

A new app called Shortcut makes summoning a talented barber to your home, office, or hotel as easy as ordering an Uber. Shortcut is the brainchild of three friends, Irvin Slobodskaya, Will Newton and Jeff Umansky, and born out of personal necessity. “I had grown frustrated by the fact that often times my busy schedule prohibited me from getting an appointment at my favorite barbershops, especially when I really needed a cut quickly and I didn’t have time to plan ahead,” says Slobodskaya. “After talking to friends, family and colleagues, I realized there was a void in the market and that’s how it began.” So the trio made it way more convenient to get a trim: Simply complete a brief profile and a barber, picked based on your needs and location, will be delivered to your door like a pizza for slightly more dough ($75 to be exact). And this can all be done between the hours of 8am and midnight.

Suddenly, you have no excuse for looking like Shaggy. Unless, you happen to live outside of New York City, which is the only city currently serviced by the app (though other locales are in the founders’ sights). Order up, New Yorkers!

Washing hair in shower

How often should men wash their hair? It's an important question you may not be asking.

"Men aren’t as educated with haircare as women," said Mezei Jefferson, former assistant vice president of education curriculum and digital content for L’Oreal.
