Ready to swap snowflakes for sunshine this Christmas? According to new data from Expedia, travelers are doing exactly that. And this year’s top-trending holiday destination is bringing the heat.
After analyzing flight searches for trips departing between December 20 and January 2, the travel company crowned Manila, Philippines, as the number one destination for Christmas and New Year travel in 2025. Searches for the Philippine capital were up more than 40% compared to last year, showing that sun-seekers and adventure lovers alike have their sights set on Southeast Asia.
So what makes Manila so special during the holidays? For starters, the Philippines is famous for having one of the longest Christmas seasons in the world, kicking off as early as September. By December, the city is glowing with colorful parols (lanterns), festive markets, and joyful caroling that spills out onto the streets.
Travelers can shop for gifts at Greenhills Night Market, stroll through Ayala Triangle Gardens for its stunning light displays, or join locals at the giant New Year’s celebration in Rizal Park. Plus, with over 7,000 islands to explore, Manila serves as the perfect launchpad for an island-hopping adventure once the festivities wind down.
Coming in second on Expedia’s list is Islamabad, Pakistan, which saw a 21% year-over-year increase in searches. The city offers a mix of serenity and scenery, with Margalla Hills National Park for hiking, Faisal Mosque for stunning architecture, and an eclectic food scene perfect for warming up winter evenings.
Rounding out the top three is Marrakech, Morocco, where travelers can trade sleigh bells for spice markets and rooftop dinners under desert stars.
