A new limited-edition tequila is bringing together two of Mexico’s most celebrated cultural traditions in a single bottle. Reserva de la Familia, the luxury tequila brand from Jose Cuervo, has unveiled Private Cask Collection Edition No. 2: Mole Cask, the first tequila finished in mole-seasoned barrels.
The release highlights the deep connection between Mexico’s culinary and distilling heritage. The tequila begins its journey in the agave fields surrounding Tequila, Jalisco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its historic agave landscape and tequila production. It is then finished in barrels seasoned with mole, one of Mexico’s most iconic dishes and part of the country’s UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage of traditional cuisine.
The result is a bottle that celebrates two distinct corners of Mexico while showcasing the craftsmanship behind both traditions.
A bottle rooted in Mexico’s history and regional flavors

Reserva de la Familia Mole Cask is produced at La Rojeña, the world’s oldest tequila distillery, located in the heart of Jalisco’s protected agave-growing region. The agave is slow-roasted in the distillery’s historic masonry brick ovens, which date back to 1812, before the tequila undergoes its unique barrel finishing process.
The mole influence also pays tribute to Oaxaca, a region widely regarded as one of Mexico’s culinary capitals and the birthplace of many traditional mole recipes. By pairing tequila from Jalisco with barrels inspired by Oaxaca’s signature cuisine, the release creates a connection between two destinations that have helped shape Mexico’s cultural identity.
Reserva de la Familia Private Cask Collection Edition No. 2: Mole Cask is available for presale now through the brand’s website ahead of a wider release at select retailers nationwide in September. The limited-edition tequila will retail for a suggested price of $120, giving collectors and spirits enthusiasts the opportunity to experience a one-of-a-kind expression inspired by Mexico’s rich heritage.
