Piper-Heidsieck Just Released a Marilyn Monroe Champagne for Her 100th Birthday

Marilyn Monroe adored Piper-Heidsieck, and the centuries-old Champagne house made a cuvée in her honor.

Marilyn Monroe was famously fond of Champagne, particularly Piper-Heidsieck, a storied producer founded in 1785. The Champagne house just released a limited-edition cuvée in honor of the 100th birthday of Hollywood’s most iconic blonde bombshell. The label features Monroe’s portrait and signature, and the launch is part of a broader centennial celebration that includes partnerships with the Marilyn Monroe Estate and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

In classic Piper-Heidsieck style, notes of orchard fruit, citrus, and brioche dance atop a fine, silky mousse in the Marilyn Monroe Cuvée. It’s delightful without being overly complex—a Champagne better suited for a party than a serious wine tasting. It’s as voluptuous and irresistible as Miss Monroe herself.

Hollywood glitz mixed with French luxury? Yes please

I appreciate the juxtaposition of Hollywood glitz and French luxury. The gold foil and crimson band are emblematic of Piper-Heidsieck, while Monroe’s portrait is one of the most recognizable images on earth—a visage displayed on museum walls, T-shirts, and murals from Brooklyn to Bangkok. It’s a quintessential symbol of France combined with a quintessential symbol of America.

At $70.99, it’s hardly a budget sparkler, but it’s also a far cry from the eye-watering prices of Piper-Heidsieck’s prestige label, Rare Champagne. After enjoying the wine, I was reluctant to toss such a beautiful bottle. It’s now repurposed as a candle holder on my kitchen table. Chill it in the fridge for a few hours before popping the cork, then pair it with freshly cut pears, chocolate, and a classic movie.
