Summer is almost here. It’s the perfect time to sip an aged spirit by a backyard campfire. We often lean toward bourbon, single malt Scotch whisky, or dark rum, but we’re always down for an extra añejo tequila. Espolòn Tequila just launched a new one.

Espolòn Tequila Extra Añejo

Made with this same 100% Blue Weber agave base in Mexico’s Los Altos region, Espolòn Tequila Extra Añejo is matured for a minimum of three years. First, it’s aged for 2.5 years in American oak before being finished for 6 months in French Chardonnay casks. According to the brand, this results in a complex, sippable tequila with flavors of caramelized sugar, vanilla beans, toasted oak, and more. This mature tequila is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.

“With Extra Añejo, we wanted to push the character of our flavor profile while staying true to what makes Espolòn unmistakably itself, and the double-cask approach adds new layers of flavor,” Jesús Susunaga Acosta, Maestro Tequilero of Espolòn Tequila, says.

“I’ve always appreciated the complexity wine barrels can bring, so finishing the liquid in French Chardonnay casks felt like a natural choice. The result is a tequila that can stand alongside aged spirits while remaining accessible for more people to experience.”

Where can I buy it?

Espolòn Tequila Extra Añejo is available at alcohol retailers throughout the US and on espolontequila.com for the suggested retail price of $69.99 for a 750ml bottle. Add this tequila to your summer must-try list for a change of pace from your usual aged spirits.

A Green Beret team rode horses into Afghanistan in 2001. Now they’ve opened one of Kentucky’s biggest distilleries.
Architecture, Building, Distillery

An incredible number of distillery tours somehow all offer a version of the same story: a family recipe, a copper still, a founder who bet it all. Horse Soldier Farms tells a very different one.

The men behind it were among the first U.S. Special Forces into Afghanistan after 9/11, riding into the mountains on horseback because of the terrain. Their story was so wild it became a movie (12 Strong, with Chris Hemsworth) and eventually a bronze statue at Ground Zero.
