Bib & Tucker is releasing its first bottled-in-bond bourbon, and the Columbia, Tennessee brand went well past what the designation actually asks for.
Bottled-in-bond is one of the oldest and strictest standards in American whiskey. The Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 requires that a whiskey be distilled in a single season by a single distiller at a single distillery, aged at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof. No wiggle room on any of it.
Bib & Tucker’s version was distilled in a single season in spring 2018 at Tennessee Distilling Group in Columbia, then aged eight years — double the minimum.
The mash bill is where it gets interesting. Bonded bourbons tend to lean traditional, but this one runs a Tennessee high-rye recipe, which adds spice and structure to a category that usually plays it safe. The corn comes primarily from within 100 miles of the distillery.
It’s charcoal-mellowed through the Lincoln County Process, aged in new American oak, and bottled at 100 proof.
The wine industry keeps buying bourbon
Bib & Tucker is owned by Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, and (trust me on this) that’s a more interesting fact than it sounds.
Deutsch started in 1981 as a wine company; it’s the outfit behind yellow tail and Josh Cellars. It didn’t add a spirits portfolio until 2009, and 17 years later, Bib & Tucker sits alongside Redemption Whiskey and Masterson’s Rye in that arm of the business.
They’re not the only wine company that pulled this move: California’s Gallo, the largest family-owned winery in the country, made its first inroads into American whiskey in 2022 with a stake in Horse Soldier, then bought Four Roses outright in April 2026 l for up to $775 million.
As alcohol consumption softens across the board, the logic seems to be that a diversified portfolio can help companies ride the waves more evenly.
A bonded bourbon fits neatly into that logic. It’s aged stock, it’s governed by a standard nobody can fake, and it’s the segment of the market that hasn’t taken nearly as much of a hit as others.
