Australia’s Archie Rose Distilling Co. is ready for its U.S. debut, and it’s making a splash with the introduction of a new co-owner: Marvel star Chris Hemsworth. The company announced that Hemsworth is joining co-owner and founder Will Edwards to help expand the award-winning whisky and spirits company into the United States. Archie Rose Distilling Co. is a relatively new company. It was founded in 2014, but in a short span has become Australia’s leading independent distillery.

As for why he’s jumping on the Australian whisky train, Hemsworth said it’s all about the brand’s commitment to quality ingredients and craftsmanship, along with tapping into the country’s potential in the spirits industry.

“I’ve been a fan of Archie Rose for a long time,” the Hollywood action star said in a statement. “Wherever I am in the world, tasting an Archie Rose whisky immediately transports me right back home, to that feeling of sitting around a campfire in the Australian bush with my mates. Their ethos of only using Australian-grown malts to produce flavor-packed whiskies at their Sydney distillery is truly awesome. They’re a brilliant example of what Australia does best, and I can’t wait to share that with the world.”

The company did not share how Hemsworth invested in the company that made him a co-owner. But he’ll be tasked with giving Archie Rose exposure in the U.S., where it plans to expand later this year. According to Archie Rose, its whiskies will be available stateside for the first time ever.

In addition to being the country’s largest whisky producer, Archie Rose is also the No. 1 independent gin producer. The distillery is based in Botany, Sydney — with a public-facing Bar & Cellar Door in Rosebery — producing its products on-site.

Archie Rose has the hardware to prove its quality

Archie Rose proudly boasts its more than 450 awards, including World’s Best Rye Whisky twice, Australia’s Best Single Malt Whisky five times, and the World’s Best Gin.

Archie Rose will roll the dice again later this year when it expands its international presence with three whiskies co-created with Hemsworth launching across markets in Asia and New Zealand. The rollout will extend into the EU and UK in 2027.

“Our approach has always been about championing local ingredients to create spirits that taste truly Australian,” said Edwards in a statement. “Having Chris join the business as a co-owner allows us to bring that ambition to the world. We aren’t just making spirits; we are using Australia’s raw materials and integrity as the case for producing the world’s best whisky, gin, and other spirits, telling the stories of the growers and the land beneath them.”

Wilderness Trail marks a Hall of Fame honor with a 10-year bourbon of its own

Wilderness Trail Distillery, based in Danville, Kentucky, has released two limited-edition whiskeys to mark co-founders Dr. Pat Heist and Shane Baker’s induction into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame’s 24th annual class.

Heist and Baker built the actual distillery from scratch in 2012, starting with a single 250-gallon pot still capable of producing about a barrel a day.

The Culinary Alchemy of Cynthia, the New West Village Wonder
Adult, Female, Person

One of my favorite tricky-to-translate Japanese words is mottainai. The term roughly echoes the old chestnut “Waste not, want not” but more broadly expresses the Japanese knack of turning trash into treasure. Nowhere is mottainai more elegantly expressed than in the kitchen. Sake lees become kasujiru, a delicious winter soup; fish heads and skeletons simmer into rich stocks; and vegetable peels reincarnate as pickles, preserves, and garnishes.

Among New York City chefs, the grand master of mottainai hails not from the Land of the Rising Sun but the land of soccer and samba. Sherry Cardoso, a young chef from Minas Gerais, has made low-waste cooking a central pillar of Cynthia, her new restaurant in the West Village. Her tasting menu, changing with the seasons, might include caramel flan with a haunting sulfurous kiss from onion peels, a Negroni enlivened with oil extracted from lemon rinds, or a wondrously funky XO sauce conjured from a hodgepodge of veggie unmentionables. After stints at Per Se, Brooklyn Fare, and Top Chef, Chef Cardoso has discovered the culinary Philosopher’s Stone—the alchemical sorcery to transmute the base into the precious.

Cosori’s new automatic coffee maker wants to perfect your pour-over
Cosori

Cosori, a trusted name in kitchen appliances known for its precision-engineered products, just dropped an exciting new way to perfect your pour-over coffee brew. The Juni, an automatic pour-over coffee machine, delivers an exceptional cup of coffee using the same technique often associated with slow, technical hand-brewing. The technique, which rewards patience, is now automated with Juni’s unique brewing system, which runs the bloom, pour stages, and extraction automatically to Specialty Coffee Association (SCA)-certified standards.

“Pour-over is defined by the hands that guide it – it’s a ritual of precise movement, gentle pours, and rising aroma,” shares Pierce Barnard, Head of Product Innovation at Cosori. “We spent 18 months studying the science and mapping each step, not to automate it away, but to replicate it faithfully. The moving nozzle, rotating basket, vibration, and open brew deck were all deliberate choices to preserve that experience.”
