After a long day of shopping in the souks and exploring the medina, a night out at a rooftop bar is the perfect way to wind down a day in Marrakesh. As you roam through the city, you’ll find dozens of options offering specialty cocktails, a great atmosphere, and views of the Kotoubia mosque. Many even offer great sunset views. But with so many options for rooftop bars in Marrakesh, I found it challenging to decide where I wanted to spend my evening in this beautiful city. From the best lounge atmospheres to unique cocktails, these five rooftop bars in Marrakesh are worth a stop.
Sky Bar – Les Jardins Kotoubia: Best lounge atmosphere
If you’re looking for a place to sit back, relax, and really soak up the Marrakesh rooftop views, check out the Sky Bar at the top of Les Jardins de La Koutoubia hotel. Perfect for a daytime drink, this bar has a relaxing atmosphere with individual canopy-style lounge seating that offers privacy for your group. Along with cocktails and mocktails, this spot also serves great tapas-style small plates to nibble on as you sip.
Although the cocktails are certainly pricy, the views and comfort here make it worthwhile. I enjoyed the espresso martini and the Blue Majorelle cocktail here. Even if you don’t order any tapas, you’ll still get a small “aperitivo” to snack on, which includes almonds and olives.
MaisonMK: Best for reasonably priced cocktails
The bars in Marrakesh undoubtedly attract tourists, which means most places serve cocktails priced at $18 to $20 USD per drink. During my travels to Morocco, I found this especially interesting, given that almost everything else (food, activities, transportation) felt cheap compared to what things cost in the U.S.
Upon some research, I found that this is because drinking alcohol is essentially not a part of everyday life for most locals (Many people in Morocco are Muslim), which contributes to high taxes on alcohol for the country. Additionally, obtaining a liquor license in Morocco is costly and difficult for businesses, driving up cocktail prices for tourists. While I wouldn’t call them “cheap”, I found that MaisonMK offered pretty solid artisan cocktails for reasonable prices (and a great sunset view). This spot wasn’t overcrowded, either.
La Pergola, Riad Monceau: Best unique cocktails
I’m not a big drinker, but when I do drink, I’m a sucker for an excellent specialty cocktail. For me, part of the experience of trying cocktails is in the “unknown” when you order. You never know what you’ll get, and the visual appeal matters, too. La Pergola rooftop is part of Riad Monceau; however, you don’t need to stay here to access it. At the door, mention that you’re interested in heading upstairs to the rooftop bar.
The bar’s unique jungle-themed design adds to the experience, setting it apart from other rooftop bars in Marrakesh. The quiet oasis may not be the best option to see the Marrakesh sunset, but it’s amongst the best if you love fun, artisan cocktails. Don’t miss happy hour, too, available from 4 to 6 p.m.
DarDar- Best appetizers
Grabbing pre-dinner drinks and appetizers is one of my favorite parts of a night out. Before visiting Marrakesh, I watched dozens of TikTok videos showing the fun, vibrant atmosphere and beautiful cocktails at DarDar Bar & Restaurant. I knew I needed to make it here during my visit — and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere alone is worth a visit, but great food and drinks complete the experience.
Although it’s undeniably a tourist hub, it’s an excellent stop for delicious Moroccan specialties and cocktails before a dinner reservation. This spot can get pretty crowded, so be sure to book a reservation in advance or go in early if you want to get a great place. This popular spot sometimes allows walk-ins; however, you may be asked to leave (or given a time limit) to allow those with sunset reservations to enter. If you’re visiting during peak season, expect to be seated pretty close to neighboring tables (the only downside I found here).
Nobu Rooftop Garden – Best mocktails
Nobu is a globally recognized hotel and restaurant chain with only one hotel on the African continent. To my surprise, Nobu Marrakesh is situated right in the middle of town, where all the hustle and bustle is. Even if you’re not staying at this hotel, a visit to the Nobu Rooftop Garden Bar is a must for any visit to Marrakesh.
Beyond breathtaking views of the nearby area, the Nobu Rooftop Garden Bar is a great spot to enjoy a signature Nobu cocktail. They also have a huge selection of unique, Japanese-inspired mocktails for those who want to soak up the views without alcohol, like a Virgin Apple Mojito or a Matcha Colada. This bar is also a great place to grab sushi (if you need a break from the Moroccan tagine).
