Sometimes, a regular coffee table just won’t do. If you’re a gaming enthusiast like many of us are at The Manual, you’ll probably be as stoked as we were to discover Surface Tension, a UK-creative firm crafting arcade tables.

The concept is pretty neat: They take a standard, everyday coffee table and insert the mechanical and electrical interiors necessary to turn it into a plug-and-play arcade game.

These tables are available in a few different options. The Dual model comes with 60 preloaded games ideal for one-on-one competition. It replicates the old vintage setup with a screen flip that moves to either side of the table, so both players share one viewing experience. (Plus, the walnut veneer and glass sides remind us of those old-school ’90s games at the pizza parlor.)

The Nucleus is the granddaddy of functional arcade tables with plenty of games and the ability to install your own. You can also plug in an HDMI cable and stream from your favorite video service.

The arcade tables’ classic styling make them a great addition to any living room or the most epic of additions to a modern man cave. When not in use, the control panel hides away so your friends won’t get too jealous (they’ll think you just have a regular coffee table). When you’re ready to unveil the surprise, the panel opens to reveal an assortment of buttons and levers.

Surface Tension also takes the same approach to recreating traditional upright game cabinets — the ones we all know and love from the arcades of yesteryear. The Retrograde model builds on that with a modern sound system and similar connections to stream music and video after gameplay is done. The company also offers “pre-loved” models, functional Rubik’s Cube storage tables, and other game-themed accessories.

All of Surface Tension models are available online.

The 14 undisputed best comedy movies of all time
These comedies are sure to soothe your soul, and they've stood the test of time for decades
Chevy Chase with the National Lampoon's family

There are plenty of people who believe that certain kinds of movies are harder to make than others. Sure, a great war movie has a massive budget, and it has to both excite its audience and leave them thinking, and great action movies have to coordinate complicated stunts that feel inventive and daring, but there may be no genre more difficult to nail than comedy.

A great comedy can soothe your soul, but great comedy means writing the kinds of jokes that stand the test of time, and are still funny decades after they were written. Because comedy is always changing, that can be almost impossible. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of great comedy movies, but the movies on this list are the ones that rise above the pack. Their jokes endure, and no matter when they were released, you'll find watching them delightful whenever you happen to turn them on.

When looking at all of the actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mark Ruffalo has arguably enjoyed the greatest amount of success outside of the superhero realm. Ruffalo experiments with different genres and Oscar-worthy films to carry a high level of respect from his peers and fans at home. Watching any Mark Ruffalo movie instantly allows someone to see how he absorbs himself into a role and becomes an entirely different person.

The 10 best flavored cigars I’ve tried and tested in 2024
Various flavor items in a cabinet like cinnamon sticks and vanilla.

Flavored cigars and infused cigars are often lumped together, but they actually describe two different types of cigars. To the untrained palate, they might seem identical and even taste similar. Who am I kidding even the most experienced smokers with sophisticated palates sometimes have trouble differentiating. Infused cigars are exposed to aromatic herbs, botanicals, and distinct flavors during the curing and fermentation process. Sometimes, they might even age the tobacco in used Cask or Port barrels. Flavored cigars, on the other hand, are often sprayed with artificial flavorings -- hence the name -- which coats and envelopes the tobacco leaves. That process creates a richer, deeper flavoring for the final cigar, which nearly masks the original tobacco flavors of the product.

Traditionally, flavored cigars were rolled with inferior tobacco, and the flavoring was used to cover up the natural contents of the leaves. That's not necessarily true today. Yes, there are some inferior-quality cigars out there in every category, including flavored and infused, but the process has been significantly improved. A great example of a high-quality flavored cigar brand is Tatiana, but also there's Acid, CAO, Nub by Oliva, Rocky Patel, and more. These days, the terms "infused" and "flavored" are used interchangeably and often denote a cigar that has a distinct flavor profile, like vanilla or chocolate.
