Cigar Lounge Spotlight: Cigar Club Miami

There are no shortages of cigar lounges in Miami. There’s a particular cigar lounge I’ve frequented in Miami where I constantly run into NFL legend and Hall of Famer Ed Reed. But then I found Cigar Club Miami. It’s the place you want to be if you’re looking for an elevated experience. For my money, it’s also your best option in downtown Miami. Elad Smadja opened the joint in January 2023. The objective was simple: give the downtown area a modern cigar lounge offering a premium cigar selection and craft cocktails. He more than delivered.

From the onset, the moody exterior prepares you for what you’re about to walk into. You’re immediately greeted with warm lighting and modern luxury throughout, from the leather barstools and Carrara marble bar top to comfortable suede chairs. The lounge features a wall humidor stocked with some of the finest cigars. The bar is also fully stocked. If you find yourself there during happy hour, peruse the healthy selection of aged whiskeys.

I showed up one morning in January and needed a quiet place to work for a few hours, but I also wanted a great space where I could light up a stogie. I had been following Cigar Club Miami on Instagram for a few months, and I finally had the chance to walk in and experience it myself. I plopped myself at the bar and ordered a cappuccino, the perfect pairing for the Ara’o Narigón cigar I selected from the humidor. It’s a light-to-medium stick with a Connecticut wrapper, my favorite.

I was blown away by how comfortable it felt smoking in an elevated space that didn’t feel stuffy at all. Great conversations were had with the bartender, who told me that the lounge was still rather new but drawing a good crowd after business hours. The day I visited, hours before I needed to be at Hard Rock Stadium for the College Football Playoff National Championship between Miami and Indiana, the bartender said they expected a big crowd and had prepared to stay open well past midnight to keep the celebration going.

About an hour into my conversation with the bartender, Smadja walked in. We struck up a quick conversation before his meeting with a cigar vendor. Later, Smadja walked over to me and handed me a Trinidad Espiritu Series 3, the brand he had recently stocked in his humidor. I immediately grabbed my cutter and torch, and it was outstanding.

If you follow Cigar Club Miami on Instagram, you’ll be treated to carefully curated videos previewing the latest products rolling in. It won’t take long for you to realize that Smadja (or someone on his team) knows how to play the social media game to perfection. His videos have a similar effect when I watch Goodfellas or The Sopranos: I immediately want to smoke a cigar.

What’s more, Smadja launched a YouTube series , where he talks to big players in the cigar world. He recently spoke to Manny Iriarte, “The Man Behind OpusX Society.” Smadja also spoke to Jonathan Drew about how he “built Drew Estate into a global cigar empire.”

With Cigar Club Miami, you get a luxurious space where professionals can smoke and congregate, as well as an educational series in the form of hour-long episodes. You can find Cigar Club Miami at 106 Northeast 1st Street in Miami. I Ubered there from my hotel, but if you drive, they offer valet parking, too.

Some of my favorite cigar lounges are in Florida. But none come above Cigar Club Miami.

Coffee is for closers: How Blake from Glengarry Glen Ross’s iconic scene teaches you more than sales
Alec Baldwin

There are moments in movies that stand the test of time. They are the first thing we think of when someone uses a turn of phrase or references something that sends your brain down the rabbit hole of movie quotes. These become cultural stalwarts and embed themselves into the very collective consciousness of our society. Some become known for certain industries. Wanna know what law enforcement is like? Check out Training Day or End of Watch. Wanna know what being a firefighter is like? Press play on Backdraft. How about military life? Full Metal Jacket, Jarhead, or Officer and a Gentleman. Want realism? Don’t watch any of them. But what about sales? There are a dozen movies that can teach you how to sell. Boiler Room. The Wolf of Wall Street. But none of them are as iconic as Glengarry Glen Ross. In fact, one scene in that movie every salesman should watch. Blake’s 8-minute tongue-lashing at the office underachievers.

Alec Baldwin took less than ten minutes to cement himself in the lexicon of sales mentors. Walking into the office, he looks at Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon, and Alan Alda and rips them to shreds when one pours himself some coffee.

Make it so, Number One: Remembering Patrick Stewart
Patrick Stewart

When was the first time you saw Sir Patrick Stewart in a film or show? Was it when he became the first man in the Captain’s chair on the Starship Enterprise after William Shatner vacated it? Or how about in a wheelchair teaching mutants to blend into society and protect it? On the day we lost one of the most remarkable human beings to ever grace the stage and screen, we look back on the times he shared with us and the lessons he left with us.

His career included Shakespeare on stage and in film, space exploration, genetic superheroes, supernatural interventions, and unexpected laughs. There are few who ever could have reached the heights of his accomplishments. And almost none could do so with the grace and the dignity of who I always referred to as The Stew.

Chivalry isn’t dead in 2026: What you need to know and do to be a gentleman
20th Century Studios

Knights slaying dragons and rescuing the damsel in distress is the origin point for many of our images of what chivalry is. Men have a culture of thinking about these moments and donning the shining armor, picking up the sword and shield, and going to war for the people we love. Today, the ideals of chivalry are a Hell of a lot different. We aren’t living in an age where danger lurks around every corner. Now, an argument could be made that the reason we live in that age is that there are still knights in armor going to battle every day for our ideals, but on a day-to-day basis, our level of chivalry is much different.

That also brings us to the age’s number one question when it comes to chivalry: is it dead? Women often tell me when talking about relationships that chivalry is dead. That men no longer seem interested in the honor of etiquette and manners. And men tend to tell me that they aren’t uninterested in chivalry, it is dead because women killed it. They don’t want it anymore. Feminism has told them all that chivalry is a device of male oppression. Women are strong and independent, and therefore no longer need a man. So, which is it? Did men abandon it? Did women kill it? The answer…yes. Both of these things are true.
