You can walk into a showroom and buy a beautifully handcrafted Rolls-Royce Ghost with relative ease. If you really want, you can add your own touches to a high degree choosing the colors and types of leathers used, the paint job, and many other fine details. If you really have both the money and the time, you can turn your Ghost into something truly unique and special, a one-of-a-kind tribute to what you’re passionate about.
That’s what one person has just done with the “Black Badge Ghost Gamer,” a wonderfully unique nod to the retro-gaming era. The deep blue exterior, tray tables, and headrests are all adorned with a small alien character that will bring back memories for anyone who’s encountered games from the 70s or 80s. The front and passenger seats feature the words “player one” and “player two” as well, adding to the lighthearted sense of fun that seems to be at the core of this vehicle. Other “retro gaming-inspired details” are apparently dotted throughout this love letter to the 8-Bit gaming era, though some are far easier to spot than others.
The starlight headliner will take you back
Throughout this entire build, Rolls-Royce has not used the words “Space Invaders” a single time — likely to avoid having to loop Atari in and add more expense into an already expensive vehicle. But anyone familiar with the arcade classic will know its spirit touches every but of this custom Ghost. It’s arguably most apparent in the “Pixel Blaster” starlight headliner that plays a basic rendition of the legendary shoot ’em up. “Pixels” slowly descend through the headliner, crossing the width of the car’s roof before dropping a row. At the same time the classic “shooting star” you usually spot while staring up in a Rolls-Royce has morphed into a “space laser” which helps remove those pixels one by one.
Other touches include an illuminated fascia with “Laser Base” backdrops containing an 85-star gunship integrated into the constellation pattern,” and digital tread plates that display the words “PRESS START,” “LOADING…,” “LEVEL UP,” and “INSERT COIN.” As for who owns this detailed not do the genesis of gaming, we have no idea. We’re just told it’s a “tech entrepreneur,” which fits the bill.
