If your 2026 travel bucket list is still a work in progress, Expedia just handed you a cheat sheet. The travel giant’s new Unpack ’26: The Trends in Travel™ report reveals the destinations travelers can’t stop dreaming about, and a few surprising places that haven’t quite gone viral (yet). Powered by data from millions of daily searches, Expedia’s 2026 Destinations of the Year list spans mountains, islands, and everything in between.
At the top of the list is Big Sky, Montana. Situated in the Rocky Mountains, Big Sky Resort offers world-class skiing in winter and exciting downhill mountain biking in summer. Off the slopes, visitors can hike to Ousel Falls, raft the Gallatin River, or head just 50 miles north to Yellowstone National Park for geysers, bison, and stargazing.
Coming in second is Okinawa, a dreamy Japanese island chain that feels like the country’s own slice of paradise. Think sparkling waters, coral reefs, and beaches like Emerald Beach and Yonaha Maehama. Beyond the sand, explore Okinawa’s unique culture, which is a blend of Japanese and Ryukyuan traditions.
Rounding out the top three is Sardinia, Italy’s wild Mediterranean gem. Here, crystal-clear waters lap at the cliffs of Cala Goloritzé, yachts dot the Costa Smeralda, and locals linger over long lunches of fresh seafood and Cannonau wine.
