Tivoli’s Model One is a stylish modern twist on the classic tabletop radio

Founded in 2000, Tivoli Audio is no stranger to making audio gear that looks just as good as it sounds. In 2016, the company introduced its Art by Tivoli speakers, and this month the company introduced the Model One Digital, a wireless speaker that aims to recreate the aesthetic of the tabletop radios of old, but with the features that modern listeners are used to.

“Tivoli Audio introduced the original Model One Radio in 2000, to fill a gap in the market for a high-quality and affordable AM/FM radio,” Tivoli chief designer Paul De Pasquale said in a statement. “Seventeen years later, we are introducing a product that will keep Tivoli Audio on the cutting edge of audio technology for years to come. The Model One Digital will carry Tivoli’s legacy of high quality and high design into the age of streaming content and home wireless audio.”

The Model One Digital is built with furniture-grade wood that certainly evokes classic radios, though the high-resolution display on the front of the speaker won’t leave anyone wondering if they’re looking at a vintage radio. The speaker grill is made from high-quality Gabriel fabric, the same used in the Art by Tivoli speakers, so if you’ve already got one or more of those, the Model One Digital will match.

The speaker packs in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity alongside a built-in FM radio and even supports Digital Audio Broadcasting, though depending on where you’re located, this may not be in use. Spotify Connect is supported, making playing your favorite artist or playlist from your phone a simple process.

While the Model One Digital can be used alone, and this will likely be the most common use case, it’s not the only one. Using the free Tivoli Wireless app, you can pair it with other Art by Tivoli speakers for stereo or even wireless multiroom audio setups.

The Tivoli Audio Model One Digital comes in walnut, black, or white finishes and is available for $300 via select retailers as well as the company’s website.

One of the many times I watched The Gentlemen, I laughed at the scene where Matthew (Jeremy Strong) joked that it was illegal in France to name a pig Napoleon. Of course, there are ridiculous laws all over the place. Want a few? In Georgia, it is illegal to eat fried chicken with a fork. In Arkansas, it is against the law to say the name incorrectly. Which means Bill Clinton would have come after me for years of me saying “ARE-Kansas.” It is prohibited to sleep on top of a refrigerator in Pennsylvania. That means my cat is a thug in Penn. And one of my favorites: It is illegal for unmarried women to parachute on Sundays.

The point is that there are crazy laws all over the place that seem completely ridiculous, and there is almost always a story behind them. So, is the Napoleon pig law a real thing? Is it illegal to raise a swine and name it after the legendary French Emperor? Well, let’s dig in. Why? Because I am a nerd and I need company in the weeds.

We have some news on the movement of the next James Bond. According to reports, we are looking at the final four (we know of three). Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Dunkirk), Callum Turner (Eternity, One Night Only), and Josh O’Connor (The Crown, Challengers) are all in the final running to portray the next 007. We also, allegedly, have a fourth, unannounced actor in the running. But of course we do. And since we have news and movement on the James Bond front, I started thinking about what the next movie will be about. That took me down a rabbit hole, and I landed on a question. What is MI6? James Bond’s employer is a shadowy government agency, like Jason Bourne’s Treadstone or Ethan Hunt’s Impossible Mission Force (IMF). But there is one major difference between them and the organization that signs 007’s paychecks.

His is real.

When I first decided I was ready to try cigars for the first time, I was ready to jump right in and sit back to enjoy the experience. Then, something crazy happened. I couldn’t light it.
