Pup Your Ride: Benefit Pet Shelters By Instagramming Your Dog in a Car

Does your dog love riding in the car? Of course he does. He’s a dog. Riding in a car is to dogs what riding in a spaceship is to us — except they get to stick their heads out the window.

Now you can put your dog’s affinity for car rides to good use. TrueCar and the Best Friends Animal Society have launched an Instagram campaign to support homeless dog shelters. Until the end of April, TrueCar will donate $1 for every dog-riding-in-car pic on Instagram, up to $50,000.

All you have to do is tag @TrueCar in a photo of your best friend cruising in a car, and include the hashtags #DogsInCars and #Donate. The money will go toward transporting dogs from overpopulated city shelters to nearby no-kill rescue facilities, where the pups are more likely to be adopted.

According to the Best Friends Animal Society, four million pets are killed in animal shelters every year. That’s roughly seven animals every minute. Dogs and cats end up in shelters after divorce, economic hardship, and other circumstances that are definitely not their fault.

The Best Friends Animal Society and TrueCar have made it fun and exceptionally easy to make a difference. After you’ve snapped your photo and posted it to Instagram, you can help even more by adopting a pet from the Best Friends Animal Society or by donating to their cause. You can also volunteer at shelters, become a foster parent, or just continue to love your pets as much as humanly possible.

The more jaded among you might dismiss this as a marketing stunt for TrueCar. So what if it is? The world would be a much greater place if more marketing campaigns were like this. We recommend that you encourage this sort of behavior by taking a picture of your dog and posting it to Instagram. C’mon, it’s 2015 — you were probably going to that anyway.

TrueCar analyzes auto sale data to find out what people pay for specific vehicles. They also have a network of more than 10,000 TrueCar Certified Dealers that sell reasonably priced vehicles all over the country.

Will Netflix’s ‘The Diplomat’ be back for a third sesaon?
The show was one of Netflix's biggest hits after its first season debuted.
Keri Russell in The Diplomat.

The second season of The Diplomat is about to hit Netflix on Oct. 31, but Netflix already has some news about a potential third season. The political thriller was a hit the second it debuted on Netflix, and the streaming service seems to like what it's bringing them because they just announced that it will be returning for a third season.

No plot details have been released about the upcoming third season, which makes sense since we don't even know exactly what happens in season 2 just yet.

NYT Connections hints and answers for October 11, 2024
The logo for Connections.

From the people that bring you the crossword and Spelling Bee, Connections is the latest NYT Games sensation that has the internet abuzz. Although the game is still word-based, Connections is fundamentally different than many of the other games released by NYT Games and can be uniquely frustrating as a result. It tests your ability to group words together into coherent categories and presents a different challenge every time you play it. And, like Wordle and so many other NYT Games, you can share your results with friends and compare them as soon as you're done.

Connections is still in a sort of testing phase at the moment, but given the game's success to date, it seems clear that the game could have the kind of legs that make it a long-running success that people integrate into their everyday lives. Like Wordle, and unlike the crossword, it's a relatively quick game, which means that playing it doesn't have to eat up your entire day. That's part of the reason so many people have gotten devoted to it and why you may be seeing more Connections results in group chats and on your social media feeds than you were a few weeks ago.
How to play Connections
The premise of Connections is relatively straightforward. The game gives you 16 words that are totally unsorted, and your job is to sort those words into four categories of four. A group of words may be combined because they're all associated with another word or thing, like "car parts" for example, or because they have something else in common, like "ends with x." The categories can be almost anything, and the smart folks behind Connections work extra hard to make sure it's hard to file things away neatly into categories. There's plenty of ambiguity, which is why you get four wrong guesses before you lose the game.
