New Music Monday: The Midnight Hollow

Listed as a “Band to Watch” by influential music blog, StereoGum, New York City based band, The Midnight Hollow, is led by singer and multi instrumentalist Spencer Draeger, with Andrew Segreti on drums. Full line up for live shows is Matt Liebowitz on bass, Vahak “V” Janbazian on percussion and Katie Lee Campo on keyboards. The band has gained a lot of attention locally, and quickly, from their hypnotic shows, unpredictable stage presence and tendency to focus on keeping sets half improv and loose.

In 2013, the band officially released their first song “Downstairs” for a compilation on French based label, Zappruder Records. In June of 2014, they released a surreal 60s psychedelic cult classic style video for “Her Morning Glow.” The Midnight Hollow recently self released their first EP in summer of 2014 with a second one set to release in Winter.

Kamasi Washington - Heaven and Earth
Kamasi Washington's 2015 debut album, The Epic, came out to rapturous critical reception, universally embraced as one of the best of the year and awarded the inaugural American Music Prize. In addition to his own acclaimed music, Washington has played with Snoop Dogg and Raphael Sadiq and performed on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly.

Heaven and Earth, the saxophonist's sophomore album features Washington's band The Next Step, as well as members of the long running collective The West Coast Get Down. Notable contributors to the album include: Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Ronald Bruner, Jr., Cameron Graves, Brandon Coleman, Miles Mosley, Patrice Quinn, Tony Austin.

Leon Bridges - Good Thing

Two new songs — "Bad Bad News" and "Bet Ain't Worth the Hand" — arrived in March of this year, along with the announcement of Leon Bridges' sophomore album, Good Thing, which comes out via Columbia Records on Friday, May 4. Both songs find Bridges adding new, more contemporary elements to his music and expanding on the retro soul sound of his Grammy Award-nominated debut album. "Bad Bad News" is bouncy and upbeat, incorporating elements of jazz and hip hop, while the ballad "Bet Ain't Worth the Hand" is smooth breakup track with strings accenting the musician's falsetto.
