Aston Martin will team up with Red Bull on a new supercar

Hot on the heels of news that Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin could be partnering up in the world of F1, Autocar is reporting that Red Bull Technologies (a different entity within Red Bull) and Aston Martin are working on a supercar to rival the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari.

Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey, who is currently employed by Red Bull Technologies, is apparently spearheading the project. At the beginning of the year, Newey pulled back from his involvement with Red Bull’s F1 team, presumably to kickstart the new model’s development, which is due for production in 2018.

Red Bull Racing’s head, Christian Horner, mentioned that Newey was working on a road car project and said Red Bull would eventually make a production car. “It’s something that Adrian is keen to do as a legacy project. At the moment our focus is on being a Formula 1 constructor, but as we see more technology cross over with the road car market, it’s something that will organically grow.”

The supercar will almost certainly use a Mercedes-Benz-sourced powertrain and electronics, and combined with Newey’s advanced aerodynamic prowess, it should stand a good chance against the world’s most hardcore performance vehicles. Beyond that, details are scarce. It’s unclear whether the vehicle will be a track-only model like McLaren’s P1 GTR and Ferrari’s LaFerrari FXX K or whether it will be approved for street duty as well.

At this point, some of you are wondering where the Aston Martin Vulcan fits into these plans. Reportedly, Aston Martin and Newey desire to keep the Vulcan and this new project separate, but we could see elements of the Vulcan’s design and its hardware carry over to the Red Bull co-developed model.

As a brief reminder, the Aston Martin Vulcan is powered by a 7.0-liter V12 making over 800 horsepower and is constructed from a carbon fiber chassis and body. The Vulcan will cost $2.3 million and will be a track-only delight.

This Week Only: A Blockbuster Pop-Up Store Opens in New York City
dumbgood blockbuster

It’s hard to remember the time when regular people had to put on pants and shoes and actually leave the house in search of cinematic entertainment. It was dark days, for sure. But, before Netflix brought us the miracle of on-demand video, Blockbuster was the only game in town. The video rental giant is a distant memory for most millennials. Now, five years after the chain essentially closed for good, one streetwear designer has resurrected the blue-and-yellow icon for just one week.

For a limited time only, a Blockbuster-themed shop has literally popped up in New York City. This latest incarnation of the '90s video store chain boasts the same bold blue-and-caution-yellow color scheme. Inside, the layout and aesthetic mirror most of the original retail stores. The Blockbuster ticket logo signage, aisles of movie candy, and rows of VHS tapes are instantly recognizable to any millennial.

The Creators of the Giga Mansion Have Teamed Up Again to Create This Luxury Home

At a time when downsizing and tiny houses are so trendy that the movement has generated multiple television shows, it seems the wealthiest among us just keep going bigger. “Giga mansions” are becoming a thing thanks to developers like Nile Niami and his “The One," a $500 million mansion that takes up a mind-boggling 100,000 square feet. Working with architect Paul McClean, Niami is at it again with Carcassonne Road Residence, the newest multi-million dollar mansion to be built in Bel-Air.

Perhaps Niami and McClean felt they couldn’t top the opulence of The One (what with its $250,000 Cristal Champagne room and jellyfish tank walls), because they toned things down when developing Carcassonne Road Residence. At just 28,000 square feet, this mansion is one-quarter of the size and currently on the market for $65 million. But smaller doesn’t mean it’s any less indulgent — this place still screams luxury.
