Ski Season Preview: Cape Productions

Winter is upon us. For those of us that worship at the altar of the Snow Gods, this in-between seasons time is one of anticipation as we carefully watch weather forecasts, tune skis, and update gear. Every snow flurry brings hope that opening day at our favorite ski resorts will be that much closer. This year, we’ve carefully researched the best gear, found new trends in the industry, and discovered what will become favorite innovations. Stay tuned as we unroll our Ski Season Preview.

In this age of GoPro edits and the selfie stick, every day spent on the snow is a chance for that perfect sunset pow shot. Whether you’re after instagram likes or a picture to hang on the wall, that shaky helmet cam footage probably isn’t going to handle it. We discovered Cape Productions while looking for better ways to film on the mountain this year, and after a chat with their founders, we hope that their drone video service will kill selfies on the slopes.

Cape has partnered with a handful of resorts across the country to provide professional video services using quad rotor drones – just like many ski movie crews use. Additionally, Cape video editors can edit your footage into your very own short ski film, giving you the winter story of a lifetime. It doesn’t matter if you’re a family out for a little vacation edit, or a seasoned rider looking to up your season footage, Cape Productions is the answer.

So how does it work? When you’re out at a Cape partner resort, you can sign up to be filmed for a few runs. Their drones are given GPS flight paths that maximize your visibility, and more importantly, minimize any crash hazards with terrain and other skiers on the mountain. After your ski days are over, Cape’s on-the-mountain pilots will upload the footage to their cloud servers and the post production team can take over. Following their editing magic, you’ll get a finished product, ready to upload and make your friends drool. Still not convinced? Cape has provided drone services for the US Ski Team during their New Zealand summer camp. You may not be able to ski like Michaela Shiffrin or Ted Ligety, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a video of ripping smooth giant slalom turns while you make your best gold medal winning impressions.
