Mandarin Oriental opened its first hotel in Austria on 20 October 2025. The company converted a heritage listed Art Nouveau courthouse on Riemergasse into a 138 room hotel that honors the history of Vienna’s First District. Alfred Keller designed the original building in 1908. Craftsmen preserved architectural details and added modern elements that suit the brand’s refined aesthetic.
The hotel offers 86 rooms and 52 suites, including three Mandarin Signature Suites and one Royal Suite. Daylight pours through tall windows onto Art Nouveau ornaments and serene palettes. Original stonework and stucco stand beside contemporary furniture and fittings. General Manager Mario Habicher positions the hotel as a sanctuary for international travelers and a gathering place for locals seeking refined hospitality within historic walls.
Executive Chef Thomas Seifried oversees four dining venues under one roof. Le Sept serves seafood in an intimate room where French methods meet Asian influences. Atelier 7 Brasserie stays open all day, with Art Nouveau décor surrounding plates of global comfort food, mostly fish and seafood touched with Asian and Austrian notes. The Café keeps the Viennese coffeehouse tradition alive with single estate coffee, world teas and handmade pastries. The Izakaya and Bar mixes Art Nouveau lines with Japanese design and pours cocktails laced with premium Asian spirits. Seifried calls the culinary program a journey of flavors in rooms that look elegant yet feel relaxed, where everyone who loves good food feels welcome.
The spa functions as a calm city hideaway. Seven treatment rooms and one couple’s suite sit alongside an indoor pool and fitness center. Treatments combine Mandarin Oriental therapies with rituals drawn from Austria. Seven boardrooms and one 140 square meter ballroom host events. The spaces mix Viennese sophistication with modern layouts, and natural light suits both small meetings and large celebrations.
With the Vienna opening, Mandarin Oriental now operates 43 hotels, 12 residences and 26 homes across 27 countries. The property adds a refined chapter to Vienna’s hospitality landscape, where historic architecture, contemporary wellness and culinary innovation converge.
