Here’s a rundown of what’s inside this innovative backpack and whether it deserves a spot on your next getaway, based on my first-hand experience.
Käydä’s unique storage, layout and design

The Käydä bag strikes a balance between organization and versatility, and I can take it on a plane as easily as I on a camping trip. The main 40L compartment is deep, open, and can hold a good amount of bulk, designed for clothing, ski gear, and technical kits. It has a detachable lining, perfect for protecting the interior from wet or soiled gear. Two transparent toiletry pockets make it easy to store and find small accessories, with a plastic lining that keeps everything dry and leak-free.
The bag has two other large compartments for overflow. The front pocket holds additional clothes, sneakers, or accessories — I found it perfect for winter supplies like my hat, scarf, and gloves. The other is on the bag’s rear, a spacious, secure tech and paperwork sleeve that felt secure and roomy enough for my 15” laptop.
The Käydä line features a unique detachable travel kit that can be carried or converted into a cross bag, large enough to hold tablets, travel documents, small snacks, or medications, with four liters of storage.
You’ll find a hidden pocket for valuables like your passport, and an easy access microfiber pocket for your sunglasses. Each side of the bag comes with two holders, one a small zip compartment, another, a magnetic water bottle holder.
The well-crafted bag is constructed of waterproof 900D polyester, which has a satin-like finish and keeps the bag safe in all weather conditions. Other features include ventilation holes, a detachable waist belt, Japanese-minted YKK zippers, and an external storage net that holds helmets, coats, and blankets when you’ve run out of interior capacity.
Who the Käydä bag for?

Since the Käydä backpack meets measurement requirements for domestic carry-ons, it’s great for those who want to travel lightly while maximizing luggage space. If you choose to check it, simply detach the waist band and chest straps to create a sleeker bag that won’t get tangled on conveyor belts. It’s a low-fuss traveler’s dream.
It’s also a great fit for the adventurous traveler, specifically designed with skiers and snowboarders in mind. The bag fits most ski-boots, and plenty of layers can join along in the bag’s additional compartments.
While it’s well-suited as a long-term travel bag for minimalists, I’d say it’s best for a long-weekend getaway, and I could pack up to a week’s worth of clothing and accessories comfortably.
Size considerations: 36L or 44L?

You can choose between a 36-liter or 44-liter model, and I found both to be relatively lightweight in comparison to my other packs. Each bag has the same layout, and both come with a 4-liter travel kit, so the experience is similar.
Making a choice between the two is easy, just decide on how much you want to pack. If you plan on packing bulky layers and gear, or taking trips over a week long, the 44-liter option is best. The 36-liter option is perfect for those who want less back strain, take shorter trips, and want a bit of wiggle room when carrying the pack on a plane internationally.
After testing the Käydä line, I look forward to taking the pack along on a wide variety of adventures, from flights, to hikes, to scenic road trips. The bag’s amenities are subtle but practical, and kept me organized even in the most chaotic travel moments. I recommend trying the luxury bag if you want a carry-on that’s designed to streamline packing without compromising comfort and quality.
