The travel landscape is constantly changing, but as we enter 2026, travel experts say it will change even more in terms of points and loyalty. The travel experts at point.me just released new insights highlighting eight new award travel trends they expect to see in 2026. From accelerating loyalty program devaluations to restricted airport lounge access, travelers should pay attention to these upcoming trends:

  1. Devaluations of loyalty programs: Travelers should pay attention, as loyalty programs “devalue” their points by increasing the cost of redemption, and use your points when you can. Point.me travel experts say waiting to use them for a future trip could mean your points are worth a lot less.
  2. Middle-tier credit cards are emerging for travelers: Premium credit card annual fees are rising, causing. Mid-tier cards to emerge that provide travel perks without ultra-high fees.
  3. Co-brand cards are becoming more valuable for travelers: For flyers who travel with one airline multiple times per year, the small annual fee for the airline co-brand card can be worth it.
  4. Airport lounge access will be further restricted: Airport lounges are overcrowded. As more travelers have access to lounges, crowding worsens, which means 2026 may be the year of stricter entry restrictions.
  5. More inviting airport spaces: Travelers demand nicer airport spaces, including noise-reducing environments and wellness-focused design. For example, Pittsburgh Airport is getting four new terraces in 2026.
  6. Premium fares will rise, and economy fares will get cheaper: As airlines adopt dynamic pricing, experts expect premium fares to increase further, while economy fares to fall.
  7. Closer booking windows: Travelers are booking closer to their trip dates, a trend already evident throughout 2025.
  8. Popular destinations will get more expensive: Inflation is undeniably affecting travel, but factors like overtourism are also at play. Budget-conscious travelers could be priced out of specific locations due to high demand.

Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport: A Design-Forward Retreat in the Heart of Boston’s Waterfront
The jewel of the northeast is the perfect getaway
Architecture, Building, Office Building

It began at daybreak, as a white light poked through the split in the curtains, and I awoke from a night of slumber, and the sun opened up over Boston. I climbed out of bed, opened the curtains, with the Boston skyline across the horizon, and the harbor poking through the facades of glass and steel. Welcome to the Boston Seaport.

I was on a late spring excursion, with the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport as my headquarters, to explore the city’s newest district, where arts, culture, and activity intertwined. What would I find?
