You can tow this compact, 500-pound teardrop travel trailer with almost anything

The affordable, barebones teardrop shell might be the perfect towable for minimalist campers.

Compact, lightweight, and easy to maneuver, teardrop trailers are the ultimate towable for road-tripping minimalists. But travel trailer brand Kleox is looking to do even more with even less via a fresh new addition to its 2025 lineup.

The German-based brand just added another featherweight towable to its catalog. The new Festival Travel pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in a teardrop. With a curb weight of less than 500 pounds, it’s one of the lightest car-towable teardrops on the market. In fact, it’s purpose-built to be towed by smaller cars, SUVs, and EVs. But Kleox confirms the total “permissible” weight is over 1,500 pounds, which allows for plenty of capacity to take all your favorite outdoor gear along for the ride. At only 10.5 feet long, it’s easy to tow, even for newbies. Although that ultra-short, single-door design no doubt makes for very cozy (read cramped) living quarters.

Kleox sets the Festival Travel apart from its sibling, the Shelter Travel, by moving the wide, rear hatch entry to the side. The latter was released in 2022 and designed to be easier to load than a traditional side-entry teardrop. This latest model was launched in 2024 as a rental for festivals and other outdoor events (although it’s unclear what makes the side-door design “better” for such outings), and was only just made available as part of the company’s regular lineup this year.

The Kleox Festival Travel is available now from €6,290 (approximately USD $7,325 at the time of this writing). If you’re looking for an easier-to-load, rear-hatched alternative, the company’s Shelter Travel is available for the exact same price, direct from the manufacturer. Budget-conscious buyers will appreciate that the Shelter Basic — a barebones, ready-to-customize teardrop “shell” — is also available for €3,990 ($4,650). Either way, though, US buyers will need to factor in shipping it stateside from across the pond.

Steep, Unscripted, and Now Olympic: Freeride’s Big Leap
Outdoors, Nature, Snow

Victor de Le Rue stood in the starting tent atop the Bec de Rosses, 10,574 feet above Verbier, Switzerland, and surveyed the terrain. After some fist bumps, he dropped into the face, with pitches from 45 to 60 degrees, where cliff bands and outcroppings mar the surface like sharks waiting to attack. A place to survive. Instead, he turned it into a playground.

After a quick drop off a narrow outcropping, he surfed through a powder field, approached a snowy ridge, and lept into a backflip with the deftness of a leopard. From there, the dance continued. A backside 360 off a cliff, slashes through wind-whipped snow, and a run-capping drop over an extended rock formation. This is freeride. At once, a demonstration of skill and creativity.
