I’m rarely a fan of “technology for technology’s sake,” especially when it comes to car camping. But, every once in a while, a tool comes along that I didn’t even realize I needed. Enter: The Hedgehog Jet.
The Jet is a versatile, heavy-duty handheld tool that combines the size of a household compressed-air can with the power of an electric backyard leafblower. It’s surprisingly versatile, but campers, outdoor lovers, and adventure enthusiasts will appreciate it for two main reasons. First, it’s incredibly effective at keeping your vehicle and gear clean. The multi-speed motor maxes out at 162 mph, creating an insanely powerful vortex that blasts off loose dust, dirt, and debris from tents, hiking boots, backpacks, dashboards, pets, and your own clothing.

The second and most surprising use I’ve found for it is in campfire-building. I’ve long been a big fan of Pocket Bellows for turning tiny, smoldering embers into roaring campfires you can be proud of. But the Hedgehog Jet takes that to a whole new level. Just get your campfire started, power up the Jet on its lowest setting, and wave it gently toward your fire pit. Voilà! The concentrated blast of air gives your campfire baby the oxygen it needs to grow. The Jet lasts up to 30 minutes on Low or 15 minutes on High on a single charge. When you’re done, it recharges via any standard USB-C brick and is small enough to stash in a glove compartment or gear box until you need it.
The Hedgehog Jet is available directly through the manufacturer’s website for $299, including a charging cable, a carry bag, several stiff-bristle brushes, and, of course, the blower itself.
