“If you can bring ice, you can bring fire.”
The BioLite team want to make your outdoor experiences better. Whether that entails brewing French press coffee on the beach or cooking pizza in the shadow of a mountain, rest assured, they’ve got your back. The latest item to hit their line of sleek camping gear and accessories is the BioLite FirePit, a portable fire pit that doubles as a grill.
How portable you ask? It’s about the same size as a Yeti Tundra 45 cooler, but a few pounds lighter. Erica Rosen, BioLite’s director of marketing, thinks it’s high time people started putting fire pits and grills on the same level of coolers.
“This is something that can be hanging out right in your own backyard at home,” Rosen says. “But then, on the weekends, you toss it in the back of your trunk.”
Yes, if you have commitment issues about where to put a fire pit in your backyard, the FirePit can quell that dilemma. It will also keep you on your neighbors’ good sides thanks to its 51 air jets. By constantly and evenly distributing oxygen to the fire, you get less smoke and a more efficient burn, which means you’ll need to use less wood. If that wasn’t enough, the FirePit also has a rack you can lift above the burning charcoal or wood for some hibachi-like grilling.
The best part of the FirePit is the mesh siding. You get the experience of watching the fire roar and crackle while the science within works to keep soot levels at a minimum. You can also adjust the fan speeds on the side, or via an Android- and iOS-compatible app, to get your fire blazing just the way you like it.
“We believe that the outdoors is about reconnecting and recharging,” Rosen says. “We believe in giving people tools, and then they can decide what do with them.”
Speaking of recharging, like other BioLite stoves, grills, and ovens, the FirePit’s power bank can resurrect any USB connectable device. Those same ports can charge the power bank, but there’s an eco-friendly option as well. If you snag a FirePit, you’ll also receive a waterproof carrying case that uses solar energy to keep your unit charged when you’re not using it.
