Jackson Hole Winterfest: Celebrate a Winter Playground

Ever raced a snowmobile? There’s an opportunity to take part this weekend in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The races begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 14 and Sunday, February 15 as part of the 5th Annual Jackson Hole Winterfest. Racers will battle it out on a high-flying snowcross track. There’s also an 1/8 mile oval NASCAR-style track where racers test their courage on vintage snowmobiles.

Also on our radar—the Rifle Ice Shoot at the Range. Participants shoot blocks of ice that are 25 to 100 yards away. Murphy says it’s especially fun since those taking part will only find out the secret location once they RSVP.

Snow King Vertfest is another big draw of this festival. Held at Snow King Mountain, it’s known as the premier backcountry ski and ride event in the country. Held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, there will be a variety of activities, clinics, competitions, and plenty of beer.

“It’s a great time of year to come out. We have some of the best snow in the country,” said Maureen Murphy, director of special events for the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce. Winterfest events are staggered over 10 days from Friday, February 13 to Sunday, February 22. Check out the full schedule of events here.

One caveat—the popular Cutter Races featuring horse-drawn chariots, and the Ski Jouring events have been canceled this year due to track conditions.
