Omg, I can’t wait for my trip!!…but then…
**Update #2: added back 2 starsAfter I chilled out and realized I could do some extra staking—like I staked from the pull handles—it remained upright. It is just not cool in the wind. Not even a little. Wicked noisy and needs lots of staking to keep it in place. Now, it’s just a good tent. Don’t think it’s worth $400. :(**Update: removed 3 starsHere’s why:My big camping trip was moved to Ocracoke in the outer banks of NC. Going swimmingly until it got windy. Two sides are now concave and I am convinced that if I did not have my cots and other items along the walls of the tent, it would have pulled up from the stakes and taken off.Again, is it windy? Yep. But NO ONE ELSE’s tent is flapping around and threatening to take flight. No one’s. In fact, it’s kind of embarrassing that people are staring at my $400 tent turned anchored kite.No one wants to love this tent more than I do. I’ve waited ages to let myself have it and on the whole, it’s a solid choice. I love that I can stand up. Love how easily it goes up. But on my maiden trip, I am worried about making it through the day.If everyone around me had the same problem, I wouldn’t be feeling I made a mistake. Again—no one. Smooth and steady tents all around me.Other cons I was willing to overlook until now:1. That door. Didn’t bother me when I set it up in the family room, but over and over? Massive tripping hazard and had to catch myself more than once.2. The interior windows have no ties for tying down so you can use the screens only. Seems a small thing, but they flap all over and low enough to hit my head were I sleeping. Of course, the side of the tent caving in on me would likely have woken me first. All in all, wonderful. But this? Not cool. No idea what to do. Still have a week to decide if I will return it.Not a happy camper. :(______This tent. Who knew you could love a tent?? I’ve been wanting this for ages. Have a Dark Sky stargazing camping trip in less than 2 weeks and holy, moly, this thing is incredible! If it’s a nice night, I’ll be able to leave the rain fly off and see the stars from my cot.I have been camping for more than 30 years, and I seem to camp more and more as time rolls along. I got a different pop up a few years ago to make solo camping easier; more about being out there and less about work. Believe me, rolling into a site at 1am and being lights out with 2 large dogs in 10 minutes was beautiful. Issue is that before long it was sagging all over. The “can’t quite stand up in it” tent became a low tunnel of week coils folding in.I have a couple small trips this spring and when school gets out, I am road-tripping cross-country. It seemed like a good time to break down. And I knew I would because the thought of crawling through that tunnel in the middle of the night while camping freestyle on BLM territory in Nowhere, USA just so I could pee…no.Enter the amazing T4. It is everything I had hoped. Set it up in the family room to check it out and I am so impressed. Took less than 2 minutes and I didn’t read the directions—just remembered the basics from reading a thousand reviews. Went down just as easily and fit back into the very well made bag with no fuss. The details are on point, it is STRONG, it is easy, and I just can’t wait to use it.Yes, as other reviewers wrote, the “D” shaped doors are a drag. BUT—every tent has some kind of lip for people to trip on. While this may force folks to be more thoughtful on entering, that is not a bad thing. And it is the only imperfection. As someone who always seems to need to pee in the middle of the night, that might be an issue. But this tent is so spacious that for the first time, I can have a camping potty for emergencies right inside. It’s a game changer. This is the most expensive tent I have ever purchased, but only because I am cheap. Tents have been expensive for years. The difference is that this one is actually worth every penny.No. They didn’t pay me or give me free stuff. They just made a wicked good tent.I will post again after my trip. Woo-hoo!!
