In 2015, Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique won Best Single Malt Whisky at the World Whisky Awards, surpassing renowned Scotch and Japanese brands. This achievement propelled the Taiwanese brand onto the global stage. Since then, Kavalan has collected more awards and built a global fanbase, culminating in its recent recognition as ‘Distiller of the Year’ at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards.
Kavalan ‘Distiller of the Year’

In a little over a decade, Kavalan has risen from a relative unknown to one of the most highly awarded distilleries, recently being named ‘Distiller of the Year’ at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards. This follows its recognition as ‘Distiller of the Year-Rest of World’ in 2023, but marks its first overall title from the WWA.
For those who are unaware, the World Whiskies Awards is arguably the most highly respected whisky-related awards in the world. Organized by Whisky Magazine, these prestigious awards were first launched in 2007. The 2026 awards featured thousands of entries from 46 different countries and regions. The whiskies were critiqued through a three-stage blind tasting by some of the most highly respected whisky experts, distillers, and industry insiders worldwide.
“Among international competitions, the WWA is considered a true benchmark for excellence, and we are deeply humbled to receive this top honor,” King Car Chairman Mr. YT Lee says.
“This recognition is not only a proud moment for Kavalan, but also for Taiwan, reflecting our team’s dedication to craftsmanship and quality. This marks Kavalan’s nineteenth distillery award of the highest industry honors in the twenty years since its founding. We remain committed to upholding these values and sharing Kavalan’s unique character with whisky lovers around the world.”
Other awards

Two Kavalan expressions made it to the final stage of competition at the World Whiskies Awards in 2026. Kavalan Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky and Kavalan Distiller’s Reserve No.1 Single Malt Whisky were both named WWA 2026 winners for Taiwan.
