3 cozy coffee cocktails to kick off National Irish Coffee Day

3 delicious Irish Coffee recipes to warm your day

Tia Maria

January 25th is widely celebrated as National Irish Coffee Day — but if you ask me, you don’t need a ‘holiday’ to enjoy coffee or cocktails. However, if you do want to get in the spirit, these cozy coffee cocktails are rich, cozy, and brimming with a touch of Irish charm. Whether you prefer the classic blend of hot coffee, smooth Irish whiskey, and a cloud of whipped cream or enjoy giving tradition a creative twist, there’s a Irish Coffee-inspired cocktail waiting for everyone to sip on today. The biggest decision left to make is which to make. Here’s a few simple Irish Coffee Day cocktails you can easily whip up at home.

Muff Irish Coffee

Enjoy a balanced Irish coffee where Muff Irish Whiskey and Galliano create depth, complexity, and a lingering finish. The experts at Muff Irish Whiskey recommend lightly whipping the heavy cream until frothy and pourable and remember not to overwhip. A whisk, shaker (no ice), or milk frother works well.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Muff Irish Whiskey
  • 0.5 oz Galliano Espresso Liqueur
  • 6 oz Freshly Brewed Hot Coffee
  • 1-2 tsp Brown Sugar
  • Heavy Cream (for topping)
  • Garnish: Cocoa Powder

Method

  1. Brew a strong cup of hot coffee.
  2. In a heatproof glass, add all ingredients. Pour the hot coffee into the glass and stir gently to mix.
  3. Top with Cream: Carefully pour heavy cream over the back of a spoon to float it on top of the coffee.
  4. Sprinkle cocoa powder on top for garnish.

Rummy Whipped Coffee

This spiked version of the regular whipped coffee is anytime “yes” for me, but especially on Irish Coffee Day.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Rummy Whipped Coffee*
  • 2 oz Kōloa Kaua’i Coffee Rum
  • 1 oz Hot Water
  • 1 oz Instant Coffee
  • 1 oz Honey
  • 4 oz Mac Nut Milk
  • Garnish: Whipped Coffee

Method

  1. In a tall bowl, add water, coffee, and honey. Whip on high speed with a hand mixer until the mixture is fluffy and light.
  2. In a chilled glass, slowly, pour Kōloa Kaua’i Coffee Rum, then ice and milk last.
  3. Top with whipped coffee. When creating layered cocktails, use a bar spoon to keep the layers from mixing.

Tia Irish Coffee

“The Tia Irish Coffee is a perfect pick me up to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day or even to just warm up on a cooler day,” says Clint Spotleson, Global Advocacy & Engagement Manager at Disaronno International USA.” The Tia Maria gives an added richness and subtle vanilla notes to the coffee, which when combined with a great Irish Whiskey like The Busker, makes for a delightful sip day or night,” he shares. Spotleson says this Irish coffee drink is best enjoyed with a fabulous dessert or a nightcap to accent your day.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Tia Maria Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur
  • 1 oz The Busker Blend Irish Whiskey
  • 1 oz Freshly Brewed Hot Coffee
  • Heavy Cream (for topping)
  • Garnish: Grated Nutmeg

Method

  1. Brew a strong cup of hot coffee.
  2. In a heatproof glass, add all ingredients.
  3. Pour the hot coffee into the glass and stir gently to mix. Top with Cream: Carefully pour heavy cream over the back of a spoon to float it on top of the coffee.
  4. Garnish with grated nutmeg.

The best beers from California you can buy anywhere
California is more than just IPAs
Sierra Nevada

Currently, more than 9,000 breweries of all sizes operate in the US. That’s an awful lot of IPAs, stouts, and lagers to choose from. Some states are more saturated with breweries (per capita) than others. This includes places like Vermont, Colorado, Maine, Oregon, and, of course, California. While I could take a deep dive into all the biggest beer-producing states, today is all about The Golden State.

I have a special affinity for California beer, and it’s because of one style in particular. Sure, you can find a beer style to fit every palate in the state, but in California, the IPA reigns supreme. In fact, if you look at almost any list ranking the best beers in the state, it will be littered with IPA options. While I often imbibe pilsners and other lagers (as well as wheat beers and other lighter beers) in the summer as well as stouts and porters (and other dark beers) in the winter, I always go back to the classic West Coast IPA.
