How to autumn-ize your Paloma cocktail

A classic cocktail treated to some seasonal flair

Farewell summer beer drops, we hardly knew you. Actually, we’re still enjoying them and just beginning that seasonal transition. And a great way to do so is by way of a cocktail that echoes the moment.

Now, that does not just mean jumping right into pumpkin spice lattes and throwing on your favorite beanie. You’ve got to do it in style, embracing the in-between. Perhaps it’s a lightweight long-sleeve tee or a cocktail to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Just no going straight to gingerbread and talk of the holidays.

It’s a great time to eat and drink. Get out to your local farmer’s market and bask in the bounty. Spend a weekend afternoon wine tasting as the grapes come in or enjoy a crisp evening with a good nightcap cocktail recipe.

Whatever you’re up to, make sure it involves some flavors of the season. There’s so much to enjoy in September and October. And once we reach Halloween, then, and only then, we can start talking about the holiday season.

In the meantime, read on for a great recipe courtesy of 1800 Tequila.

Cinnamon Grapefruit Paloma

It’s warming spices season and this fine Paloma recipe emphasizes just that.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 ounces 1800® Reposado
  • 3/4 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 ounce cinnamon-infused agave syrup
  • 2 ounces soda water
  • Cinnamon sugar for garnish on rim

Method:

  1. In a mixing tin, combine tequila, fresh grapefruit juice and cinnamon agave.
  2. Shake and strain into a cinnamon sugar half rimmed Collins glass.
  3. Add soda water and fill with ice and quickly stir to evenly mix.

As if there weren't enough reasons to love Portland International Airport. Now, there's one more. The Rose City's own Straightaway Cocktails has opened a cocktail lounge there, solidifying the hub as one of the best American airports.

Now, in addition to cool record stores, short film cinemas, and great food, there's a place for a bar-level cocktail. It's perhaps no surprise, as the airport tends to focus on local, from Oregon breweries to area restaurant chains. Straightaway already has a partnership with Alaska Airlines, with many of their RTD canned cocktails showing up on the in-flight menu.
