Bunnahabhain is launching a new whisky finished in unique barrels

Bunnahabhain is releasing a new single malt whisky aged in a variety of unique casks

In the world of single malt Scotch whisky, there are five regions. They are the Lowlands, Highlands, Speyside, Campbeltown, and Islay. The latter is different from all the rest thanks to its glut of distilleries producing peat-smoked whiskies. But not all the distilleries on this Inner Hebrides island make smoke bombs.

Bunnahabhain is known mainly for its unpeated single malts. Recently, this popular distillery announced the launch of a new expression matured in a combination of unique barrels.

It’s called Bunnahabhain Turas Math No.1 and the inaugural release in its new Westering Home Collection. Created by Master Blender Julieann Fernandez, this limited-edition single malt whisky is matured for fifteen years in Manzanilla sherry casks before spending another five years Amarone casks after 10 years in refill oak.

According to the brand, the result is a sublime, 111.8-Proof expression that begins with a nose of black cherries, plums, blackberries, cloves, and roasted nuts. The palate is a symphony of flavors, including cinnamon pastries, treacle toffee, hazelnuts, dried figs, and herbal notes. The finish is long, warm, and ends with a mix of salted caramel and warming spices.

“With Turas Math No.1, I wanted to capture the feeling of setting out on a journey — full of anticipation, contrast, and discovery,” Fernandez said.

“The Manzanilla casks bring that crisp, structured start, while the Amarone finish offers a lush, rewarding depth. Bringing them together at Bunnahabhain Bay, where both spirits have matured by the sea, creates a single malt that’s layered, harmonious, and deeply rooted in our sense of place.”

Bulleit is celebrating America's birthday with a new rye whiskey

While bourbon is referred to as America’s “native spirit”, rye whiskey actually has a longer historical footprint in the US. While bourbon didn’t get its start until the late 1700s, rye whiskey was popular decades prior. So, it only makes sense that in celebration of the United States’ 250th birthday, Bulleit would release its oldest rye whiskey ever: Bulleit 20-Year-Old Rye.
