The Best Food Quotes of All Time (Warning: May Cause Hunger)

One of the gratest American authors of the last century, Kurt Vonnegut, once said a very smart thing about food. In his 1979 novel Jailbird, he famously penned the quote: “You can’t just eat good food. You’ve got to talk about it too. And you’ve got to talk about it to somebody who understands that kind of food.”

Being lovers of all things edible and potable in this life, that statement rings true for us here at The Manual. It doesn’t matter if it is litrally the fanciest meal of your life or street meats in a foreign country that cost you about four cents US, or hell, even a meal that you thought was good … until you landed in the hospital with food poisoning — all of these can be transformative experiences. Each and every one of those meals deserves to be talked about in some way.

Talking about food, too, opens you up to learning about other foods and other experiences you may not have had before. Oh, you had that? Have you tried this? or If you didn’t like that, stay away from this!

For some, though, putting words to such a great (or terrible) experience might seem as monumental a difficulty as cooking the meal they just consumed. That’s okay, though. Not everyone is skilled in the same ways (and that’s what makes us all individuals … cue “The More You Know” comet), and there are plenty of people out there who have already put words to the page to describe food.

Next time you have a great meal — or just need a new quote to post on Twitter — scroll down for the best food quotes. Ever.

9 of the Best Food Podcasts To Feast on
Man wearing headphones cooking in kitchen.

The culinary world of today is a boundless one — full of talking heads, reality programs, online (wine) courses, and more. Starting from celebrity chefs all the way to dramatic winner-take-all cooking shows, the entertainment value is high, and there are countless rabbit holes you can get lost in. This makes food and cooking podcasts all the more attractive. You can choose your theme ahead of time, whether it's Asian American industry leaders or simply cooking from home. Tuning into a new episode of your favorite podcast is a great way to get rid of some of the noise and really focus on a particular topic or style of cooking. And you may even become a better — or at least more informed — cook in hindsight.

There's a new food podcast roughly every day, so we've gone ahead and done the combing for you. Here are the best food podcasts to listen to right now.
Point of Origin
Launched by the ever-passionate Stephen Satterfield of Whetstone Media, Point of Origin is arguably the best food podcast right now. If nothing else, it's the most important. It's also completely evolved, tackling tough topics like racism and inequity in food with outstanding and entertaining context.

The 17 Best Coffee-Infused Beers To Flip All the Switches
best coffee beers 2021

Sometimes a downer is made all the better with an upper. We're not talking about the heart-racing, stay-up-all-night kinda way a round of Red Bull Vodka’s or Four Loko's might inspire. More like a pleasant coffee-infused beer. The two realms play really well together. Coffee, with its nutty, earthy, citrusy, roasted elements, and an excellent craft beer with its infinite alignments of grain and hops. Because the flavor spectrums are so broad for each element, though, matching the two requires a bit of skill.

In the old days of craft, it was hard to find much beyond a porter or stout being given the roasted bean treatment. Today, coffee is playing award-winning cameos in IPAs and golden ales and showing up in other styles in the forms of cold brew, espresso, and more. Brewers and roasters from all over the country are teaming up to show how their very specific recipes and coffee bean types can combine to create something else entirely. Here are a few worthy of some space in your fridge.

The 9 Best Food Processors for Your Kitchen in 2022
best food processors cuisinart

You might be wondering if you really need a food processor if you already own a top-notch blender. The answer depends on the type of food preparation you want to achieve. Both blenders and food processors are essential tools to have in your kitchen. However, there are certain kitchen tasks that one tool tackles more effectively than the other. And while some jobs are designed for a food processor but can be done with a blender (and vice versa), some aren't recommended for either machine.

The main difference between a blender and a food processor is that the good blenders available are designed to pulverize and combine mostly wet ingredients (smoothies, soups, and purees). While a food processor can combine wet and dry ingredients, it also can shred, chop, and julienne foods. You also have more precision when it comes to mixing ingredients like butter, doughs, and dips. Since you'll probably need a food processor, check out of our top picks for food processors.
