Oris Aquis Pro 1000M cuts thickness and price while keeping extreme capability

Oris Aquis Pro 1000M: Slimmer titanium diver at $4,100

In 2018, Oris released the Aquis Pro 1000M ,which has a depth rating of 1,000 meters (vs. 4,000 meters of the original Aquis Pro 4000M), but is only 16.6mm thick (compared to the 23.4mm of the original) and has a titanium case of the same 49.5mm diameter as the original. The lower profile makes the new 1000m watch easier to wear every day; although it maintains the exact diameter of the 4000m, it is three times the rated maximum depth of the 332.35m deepest human dive. The 1000m is priced at $4,100 compared to the original 4000m at $6,900.

The 16.6mm case of the Aquis Pro 1000M is made of a gray PVD-coated titanium, and retains the patented “Rotation Safety System” bezel developed by Oris, which must be lifted before it can rotate. This feature was added to prevent the diver from accidentally adjusting the bezel while underwater. The bezel is fitted with a gradient blue ceramic insert that contains all of the necessary luminous markings. The bezel sits very close to the double-domed sapphire crystal with an AR coat, leaving no space between the two elements. Unlike the original, this is much thinner and gives the Aquis Pro 1000M a much cleaner look. The dial is decorated with a beautiful gradient blue wave pattern and also displays the date via a window at 6 o’clock.

The Oris Calibre 733 automatic movement powers the Aquis Pro 1000M instead of the in-house Calibre 400 used in the 4000m. The Calibre 733 is based upon the Sellita SW200-1 and stores 41 hours of power reserve using conventional architecture, rather than the extended reserve and other advanced features found in the manufacture Calibre 400. Although the use of a standard movement does reduce the cost of production of the Aquis Pro 1000M, it still provides reliable timekeeping due to its established Swiss design.

Both the applied hour markers and hands are treated with a luminous substance so they will be visible when underwater. The date window at 6 o’clock is now black on a white background instead of white on a black background. The rehaut of the watch is finished in gray PVD-coated titanium and carries the text “Aquis Pro” in blue. The watch ships with two blue and black rubber straps and includes a strap-changing tool.

The Aquis Pro 1000M is priced at $4,100 and thus positioned below competitors that offer similar technical specifications. The Omega Seamaster Ploprof with a 1200-meter rating sells for $16,100, and therefore the Oris is about one-quarter the price of an equivalent depth-rated watch. The improved value proposition further establishes Oris’ place in the accessible luxury dive watch market while still meeting or exceeding the technical requirements of recreational diving.
