Hurley and Carhartt is the Unexpected Collaboration We’ve Been Waiting For

If at first, the Hurley x Carhartt collaboration might seem a bit unexpected, well, that’s OK. We felt the same. But take another look and you’ll realize that the partnership between surfwear and workwear actually works out quite handsomely, specifically in this the new four-season product capsule collaboration. As both brands say, Hurley x Carhartt is “built to outwork the water,” and that’s an ethos we appreciate (no matter the season).

In fact, Hurley x Carhartt is kicking off with a spring product drop, followed by three forthcoming launches this year. So, what exactly are we talking here when it comes to this unexpected collaboration that’s fit for near water or inland?

Both brands said the collaboration serves to “support hardworking individuals whose lives are defined by water.” It’s there that the two brands find common ground.

The spring drop includes men’s and women’s styles, including a pair of on-trend yet durable men’s work shorts (with a front thigh zipper to hold your everyday carry essentials). Other favorites from the men’s offering build off the rugged, made-for-anything nature of both brands, including the Hurley x Carhartt T-shirt, a reasonably priced basic made with heavyweight cotton and a relaxed fit — suitable for the boardwalk, the beach or whatever project you’ve got waiting for you in your workshop.

Reflective of the fluid state of fashion today, the Hurley x Carhartt also features a unisex pullover fleece hoodie, the perfect layering option whether you’re drying down from a morning surf, enjoying a beach bonfire, or taking on a chilly winter day. But really, the important thing to note is that pieces really can work right now in winter, and then be kept handy during early spring and summer (especially the work shorts and heavyweight pocket tees).

And like other new and noteworthy fashion collaborations, it helps that both brands are drawing on the DNA of the other, from the workwear silhouettes of Carhartt to the beach-ready shorts and tees of Hurley, this is the type of collab that calls for mixing and matching both pieces when on, near or around the beach.

It’s often the more unexpected collaborations we enjoy the most, and this offering from Hurley and Carhartt fits the bill rather nicely (to say the least). Curious if you’ll feel the same way? Give it a try.

If workwear is your thing, learn more about it became the darling of the fashion world.

The collection throws it back to the Portugieser of the 1930s, where the design got its first inspiration from those gorgeous navigational watches on the deck of a ship. Keep that nautical theme in your head because each piece in the collection has celestial details as the star.

Turn back time with the new Santos
Cartier Rewind on wrist

Wristwatches may be distinctly masculine pieces of hardware now, thanks to some very popular people in pop culture and in our own history adopting them. British super spy James Bond, movie stars, and athletes are the people we look up to who wear watches that catch our eye. Soldiers, cops, firefighters, and first responders wear watches they trust to ensure they can save lives. Pilots and divers created an entire industry around watches specifically designed for their vocations. And the very first pilot's watch was none other than a Cartier watch.

Alberto Santos-Dumont was a pioneer in the flight world and was one of the first people on Earth to achieve air travel. He was a competitor of the Wright Brothers, and, depending on the source, he preceded them in flight. In any case, the French celebrity went to Louis Cartier, another pioneer of his craft, and procured a square timekeeper meant for the wrist. The Cartier Santos Dumont was born. Over a century later, Cartier attended Watches and Wonders and presented the newest in the line of Santos watches, one that reverses time.
