Relive the ’90s with the Translucent G-Shock Skeleton Series

Ah, the 1990s — the time of JNCO jeans, Hammer pants, light-wash denim, neon colors, oversized outerwear, and all things clear. It was a simpler time, a time when the Internet didn’t exist in the all-encompassing, influencer-driven way that it does today and TGIF was a good-natured, family-oriented television lineup on the ABC network featuring such artists as the Olsen Twins and the guy who played Cousin Balki on Perfect StrangersNow, Balki might have been a fish out of water while living in the U.S., but I’d like to believe that he had enough fashion sense (given this number) that he would gravitate toward one of the models in the new G-Shock Skeleton Series.

G-Shock, renowned for its relatively inexpensive but extremely durable timepieces, recently unveiled an update to a variety of models. That update strips away the typical opaque casing in lieu of a translucent one, allowing you to see the inner workings of the analog-digital watches, thus the name: The Skeleton Series.

The DW5600SK-1 model offers a simple, square face with a digital display off set by a metallic gray plate and, of course, clear case.

Two-tone coloring and a semi-transparent resin for the case and band make the DW6900SK-1 model a touch more interesting than its predecessor and a bit less out there than its successor.

The GA7000SK-1A features a traditional large front button and three-dimensional hands to “enhance the multi-dimensional model.”

One word: day glow. Enough said.

Like all of G-Shock’s Analog Digital watches, each of these possesses a few key features: 200M water resistance and superb shock resistance, a stopwatch feature, a countdown timer, both a 12-hour and 24-hour format, and the crystal clear exterior casing. So, friends, be like Balki and get yourself a translucent watch from G-Shock that you can pair with your craziest non-floral print shirts and some lightweight shoes for summer.

Ed Sheeran Instagram rumors confirmed
Ed Sheeran with a table full of watches

British musician Ed Sheeran is partnering with Hodinkee and Casio to release a limited version of the ever-popular G-Shock watch. The striking yellow timepiece follows on from a series of three G-Shocks designed in collaboration with Sheeran’s fellow musician, and fellow watch enthusiast, John Mayer between 2020 and 2022.

Given its styling, the watch, much like Sheeran himself, is pretty easy to spot. The “Shape of You” singer has been seen wearing it on tour, and recently gave everyone a closer view of the timepiece on Instagram, which has led to speculation amongst enthusiasts. Some fans thought he was wearing a special watch designed for the tour, while others suggested Sheeran had nabbed a yet unreleased special edition from the company. Now we know both rumors are somewhat true.
