If you’re looking for a gift that few others will receive (or an idea for your own wish list), here’s something worthy of consideration—a custom crafted No. 497 Messenger Bag that’s the result of a collaboration between Dewar’s whiskey and Billykirk. It’s definitely a conversation starter since there are only 100 of these bags up for grabs.
The idea for the messenger bag revolves around the wanderlust that expanded Dewar’s from a small Scottish distillery to a global standard for the finest blended Scotch whiskies. Tommy Dewar’s global adventures caught the imagination of his friends as he told them stories and they encouraged him to publish his journal, which is now known as A Ramble Round the Globe.
The limited edition bag is designed by Billykirk, which is a leather and canvas design company lauched by brothers Chris and Kirk Bray in 1999. They started in Los Angeles, but have their flagship store/showroom at 16 Orchard Street in the Lower East Side of NYC. Most of the company’s small leather goods and bags are handmade by in-house artisans or by a group of Amish leather crafters in Pennsylvania.
Like a good whiskey, the No. 497 Messenger Bag was designed to grow better as it ages. The unique oil pull-up leather reflects the strong character of the hide as well as highlighting imperfections. Each bag will reveal its own story of travels around the globe, just as each owner will have colorful anecdotes to share.
The bag is 12 1/2″ x 15″ with a depth of 5 1/2.” The shoulder length is 42″ – 53.” A zippered opening near the bottom of the bag allows for easy storage and access of a bottle of Dewar’s whiskey. Retail price $650. Must be 21 or older to order, but the whiskey is not included.
