Maserati launches a sporty new Grecale SUV trim

The new SUV features an exclusive engine tuning and a unique AWD system

Maserati’s Grecale SUV has a new trim in North America, and that comes with big changes under the hood. Which means the already pacey sports utility vehicle is now packing even more of a punch.

The Trident’s new “Modena V6” boasts up to 385 horsepower and 368 lb.-ft. of torque. All of this is being sent through a very advanced, Gen 2, eight-speed gearbox which “offers lightning – fast millisecond shifts and a very smooth feel due to a fast-locking torque converter.”

As for what these numbers translate to, it’s a respectable 0-60 time of 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 160 mph. Towing capacity clocks in at just over 5,000 pounds too — so you can get a mid-sized boat to a lake if you want to use your Italian SUV as an SUV.

While it’s easy to focus on the new engine, there are some other changes that are worth noting. If you encounter a Grecale Modena V6, you’ll be greeted by staggered 21-inch wheels, a sporty quad exhaust, and some new “V6” badging. Inside, expect a lot of premium leather alongside an exquisite Radica wood trim. Multicolor ambient lighting can help build atmosphere, as you relax into the 14-way adjustable seats and enjoy the sounds made by the 14-speaker Sonos Faber sound system.

The vehicle also features an advanced all-wheel drive system. Under normal conditions, it’s heavily biased towards the rear-wheels. Which makes the vehicle more efficient, and gives it a sportier feel. However, when you get your foot down, the vehicle’s load transfers, or the wheels lose a little traction, power is sent to the front wheels. The torque is split progressively from back to front, up to a 50/50 ratio. Which means there should always be plenty of grip and stability when you need it.

You can expect other driver aids too, like adaptive cruise control with Stop and Go, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian recognition, blind spot detection, and lane keeping assist.

It’s more “everyday luxury” than “special occasion

While it’s not the most powerful Grecale, that title still rests with the “Trofeo” trim, the Modena V6 does have a strong sense of purpose. Maserati seems to have designed it to be better suited to everyday life than the more powerful option.

Andrea Soriani, Head of Maserati Americas said: “The Grecale Modena V6 brings the Maserati experience into even sharper focus for our region. With a V6 at the heart of the range, it delivers the character our customers expect from the Trident – stronger performance, a richer sound, and a competitive specification that stands up in the real world.

It’s modern Italian luxury you can enjoy every day, with the space and versatility to seamlessly integrate into your lifestyle.”

The Grecale Modena V6 is arriving at dealerships across the United States now, with a starting MSRP of $84,500.

It's Charles Leclerc's first win in almost two years
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton

Charles Leclerc earned his first victory in almost two years for Ferrari. Unfortunately for him, all the chatter around the British Grand Prix will be about its controversial ending that resulted in the 175,000-strong crowd at Silverstone booing after they were denied a dramatic finish.

The record crowd at Silverstone was in for a thriller from the start, with Leclerc staking claim to the lead, followed by Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton behind him. 19-year-old phenom Kimi Antonelli didn't need long to take over Hamilton. And it seemed like Antonelli was positioning himself for a stunning sixth Formula 1 victory, taking the lead after Leclerc made a pit stop.

Rolls-Royce celebrates July 4 with three exclusive vehicles
Rolls-Royce has closet ties to the US than you might think
Architecture, Building, Office Building

Many things make you think of America, cowboy hats, bald eagles, air conditioning. But Rolls-Royce might be one of the last things that spring to mind when you're thinking of the U S of A.

Despite the German-owned luxury marque being about as British as it gets, Rolls has decided to celebrate the USA’s 250th birthday by delivering three vehicles. One in red, one in white, and one in blue. According to Rolls, this collection consists of a Bohemian Red Cullinan which “represented the strength, courage and entrepreneurial spirit that have defined America for 250 years.” An English White Phantom which “reflects the nation's founding ideals, timeless elegance and enduring pursuit of excellence.” and a Iguazu Blue Ghost which “symbolizes innovation, optimism and the limitless horizons that continue to define the American spirit.”
