Introducing Alex Mill

Alex Drexler has taken the motto, ‘Like Father, Like Son’ to the next level. Alex is the son of Mickey Drexler, the CEO of J. Crew, and has launched his own collection of cozy basics for the modern man and his son called Alex Mill. It’s rolling out for fall 2013 – right now.

The collection was built around the idea of a man’s uniform of well-crafted essentials with a reasonable price point ($55-$295). There is the woven shirt, the classic fit jean, the eponymous t-shirt and unstructured blazer. Drexler junior spent over ten years in production and other arenas of the fashion industry, so he wanted something that lasts, has plenty of character and improves with wear. The entire collection is founded on the ‘Wash & Go’ principle, nothing precious here, you can take it, wear it and wash it anywhere and be good to go. The 100% cashmere hats and gloves are also high on our wish list for fall/winter warmth.

While we are pumped to have a new basic brand for us guys, it’s great to see someone doing something for the little guy that doesn’t make him look like another mall clone. Shirts in chambray, multi-colored stripes and mis-matched plaids are refreshing for kids aged 2-10.

Next season the brand will continue to evolve to an idea of the man’s uniform. Alex revealed that they will be introducing a chino, polo, military jacket and other key items centering around the uniform idea. We wonder when the J.Crew collab will happen to make the ‘Father/Son’ come full circle.

Alex Mill can be found at Barneys and Barneys.com, Unionmade and www.unionmadegoods.com, Odin, United Arrows, Journal Standard and the Mohawk General Store as well as other specialty stores throughout the world.

Piaget introduces obsidian-dialed polo perpetual calendar watches
Stone and steel: piaget crafts obsidian-dialed polo perpetual calendars
Piaget polo perpetual

Piaget added two new models to its Polo perpetual calendar collection. Both display natural obsidian stone dials in striking blue and green shades.
The latest models of the well-known Polo line, which began in 1979, continue the company’s tradition of combining ultra-thin mechanical expertise with special material craftsmanship. The volcanic stone dials give each watch a unique character, as the natural shine produced when mineral-heavy sulfides are trapped in fast-cooling lava ensures that no two watches are the same.
Both models come in 42mm stainless steel cases that showcase the Polo's signature shape-in-shape design-a round bezel set on a cushion-shaped case. The watches offer 30 meters of water resistance, despite their luxurious appearance.
Inside each watch is the ultra-thin caliber 1255P automatic movement, only 4mm thick, which provides full perpetual calendar functionality. The movement displays day, date, month, and moon phase. The moon phase is positioned at 6 o'clock and will remain accurate for over a century without adjustment.
The obsidian blue version has a more understated look, with its deep blue stone dial and a matching rubber strap. The case features both polished and satin-brushed surfaces for added visual contrast.
For extra distinction, the obsidian green model is limited to just 18 pieces. This version elevates the luxury factor, with a bezel set with 56 brilliant-cut emeralds surrounding the natural green obsidian dial.
These stone-dialed models follow Piaget's 2023 limited edition, which reportedly sold out quickly. This continues the company's focus on expanding its technical prowess while maintaining its unique design language, as seen in recent releases like the Polo Tourbillon Moonphase.
The price for the obsidian blue model is €108,000. The gem-set, limited-edition obsidian green model is priced at €149,000-placing these watches firmly in the high-end segment of the sport-luxury category, where Piaget continues to showcase its expertise and creativity with materials.

Vacheron Constantin introduces first minute repeater to overseas collection
Three complications, one sports watch: vacheron's new overseas breaks new ground
Vacheron Constantin Minute repeater

Vacheron Constantin presented the Overseas Grand Complication Openface. This is the first time a minute repeater has been used in the Overseas collection, which is known as a sporty line. The watch combines three major complications in a water-resistant titanium case.
Inside the new model is the manufacture's Calibre 2755 QP, a thin movement measuring 7.9mm. It features a minute repeater, a perpetual calendar, a tourbillon, and a power reserve indicator. This level of complexity is not often seen in luxury sports watches, as grand complications have usually been reserved for more formal watch lines.
The name "Openface" comes from the watch’s sapphire crystal dial, which makes the complex mechanism underneath visible. This clear design shows off the beauty of the movement. Rhodium-plated wheels and NAC-treated parts add a modern contrast that fits with the Overseas collection’s style.
Instead of sticking to traditional grand complication designs, Vacheron Constantin has put this watch in titanium. This material is chosen for its light weight and its ability to transmit sound well for the minute repeater. The case has new shapes that keep the Overseas profile while housing the complex movement.
As is usual for the Overseas collection, the watch comes with a titanium bracelet, keeping both comfort and practicality. Despite the complex mechanisms inside, the watch remains water-resistant difficult achievement for a minute repeater.
The Overseas Grand Complication Openface represents a change for Vacheron Constantin’s sports luxury line. The Geneva-based manufacture brings its top watchmaking expertise to the Overseas collection, continuing to blur the lines between high complications and everyday wearability.
Full specifications and pricing have not yet been released. This new reference will sit at the top of the Overseas collection and will be among the most technically advanced sports watches offered by any manufacturer.

Richard Mille dips its toes into gothic style with the latest sapphire model
A new gothic Richard Mille
Richard Mille RM 75-01

Richard Mille debuts another Sapphire model, RM 75-01, available in three colors (pink, green, and blue). It merges two styles—gothic and aqua aesthetics—into one, creating a balance between maximalism and minimalism. While the gothic style is highlighted by the open-work dial, the casing is reminiscent of water’s fluidity thanks to the casing’s transparent look. Think of it as an option that also creates a balance between aesthetics and mechanical precision.

One of the most striking details of this new model is the ‘flying’ architecture. Richard Mille removed components, like the tourbillon’s bridge plate, to create space—this makes it easier to enjoy the mechanical views. The tourbillon and barrel are cleverly suspended to take the aesthetics to the next level with the ‘flying’ layout.
