Loewe’s Bild 9 is So Next-Level Sleek It’s Making Us Feel Like TV Virgins

The company that invented the television just reminded us how transcendental watching TV can be.

From the same German wunderkind company that invented the television set, Loewe seems to have reinvented this commonplace electronic into a piece of damn-near perfect sculptural art…while packing it with state-of-the-art features that enhance the experience of watching television, even if it’s a crappy sitcom.

While back in 1931 the minds at Loewe were presenting the world’s first electronic film transmission at the 8th Berlin Radio Exhibition, it would be Loewe’s London-based Creative Director Bodo Sperlein that designed the futuristic Bild 9— a highly sophisticated and swank as shit television set that we now dream about at night.

Inspired by the Golden Twenties and Art Deco, Sperlein said he created Bild 9 to “radiate a presence and lightness so fascinating that it has an almost sculptural effect.”

Well hook, line, and sink.

This 7 mm screen (that’s slimmer than your iPhone, Johnny) stands on a hand-forged, ground, and polished steel frame, while a high-quality fabric on the back of the set disguises any and all connections and cables. The Bild 9 simple looks like a sleek canvas on a mount.

Once you turn it on, the screen’s OLED technology produces a crisp image thanks to its use of self-lighting organic pixels. That means you don’t have to dim the lights for the screen to really radiate. Then when the TV is turned off, the pallet across the screen is a deep and intense blackness. The huge color spectrum made available via Dolby Vision’s high dynamic range images can be credited for the enhanced visual quality of the Blid 9. (I mean, this screen makes cheesy rom-coms bearable… and MLB a freaking vision).

And we haven’t gotten to sound yet.

Loewe offers a rich 120 watts of power from six separate speakers and four passive bass membranes. These speakers, the Loewe Klang 9, are a hybrid speaker-meets-subwoofer, which created a warm yet engulfing soundtrack to your movie, show, or… hey just play must from the set if you want.

Store whatever app, show, or recording you want to watch on the Bild 9 home screen and you’re set.  It’s simple— which only adds to the beauty of this television.

Choose from three mount offerings that include table stand for a shelf or rack, wall mount, or steel frame.

The Blid 9 will transform your football Sunday’s into a classy experience, or, for movie buffs, make the theatre-quality image and sound scoffable.

Either way, the Loewe Blid 9 is making us all feel like TV virgins and it’s very exciting.

Don’t ruin your cigars: here’s how to properly season a new humidor
Seasoning secrets every cigar lover could use
faceless man presenting a cigar humidor with cigars inside with gloved hands

If you're a newcomer to the world of cigars or just bought a brand-new humidor, you'll need to season it. And no, I'm not saying to add salt and pepper to it. If you've never heard of it, you might ask, "What is seasoning for a humidor?"

Don't think you need to flavor the box or anything — seasoning is really about getting the wood inside your humidor so as not to rob your cigars of precious moisture. Easy to understand, and getting it done is relatively straightforward as well. The trick is figuring out the "why," and we'll get into that in a bit. But let's first discuss seasoning a humidor.

The NBA’s ultimate celebration tool: The victory cigar
A look at the players and coaches who smoke to celebrate
Jordan smoking a cigar image on a bag

Sports are synonymous with celebration. After winning the biggest trophy of their lives, athletes want to indulge in the payoff that comes with seeing their dreams realized. Teams go into the locker room, where a waterfall of champagne hits them in the eyes, and swimming goggles seem to be a requirement, lest you walk around on the best night of your life half blind. While drinking is often the activity of choice after winning a championship, the NBA has an alternative symbol of greatness that other sports don't use nearly enough: the victory cigar.

Basketball is a team game, but it's also an individual canvas for solo superstardom. After winning an NBA championship, the coaches and players who sit atop the throne have long smoked a cigar in the locker room, during the parade, or even on the bench before the clock has hit zero. There's nothing quite like a good stogie to signify the ultimate win over the rest of the league, but how did the victory cigar get so ingrained in NBA championship celebrations? We want to take a walk down memory lane and look at some of the historical moments and people who made the cigar what it is within the NBA today.

The best medical shows of all time to binge now
From ER to The Pitt, these are the best medical shows ever made
Noah Wyle in the Pitt

Throughout TV's long history, the medical drama has occupied a somewhat unique place in the landscape. Medical shows are often some of the most reliable on TV precisely because there's so much drama built in to working in a hospital.

Personally, I've found the medical drama to be deeply comforting for years, even if I have no desire to be a doctor myself. Understanding the stress of people in the healthcare profession is fascinating in and of itself.
