The Fifty and Fifty State Mottos Project

FiftyandFifty

The Fifty and Fifty State Mottos Project is a curated project exhibited at The Ace Hotel in New York City that brings together the wonderful worlds of graphic design, art and Americana. Fifty designers were chosen to represent their home state by featuring a classic state motto juxtaposed with an accompanying image.

The man behind the motto exhibit, as well as its curator, is artist Dan Cassaro who represented New York’s motto “Ever Upward”. Cassaro is a designer, animator, and illustrator whose clients include: The New York Times, Nike, and MTV.

The different designs reinvigorate and reinforce the mottos, some of which are centuries old.

Some of the featured designers include:

Matt Stevens who designed North Carolina’s “To be rather, than to seem”, Matt Lehman designed Tennessee’s “Agriculture and Commerce”, Richard Perez  worked on California’s “I have found it!”, Dria Zlanabitnig Georgia’s “Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation” and Aaron Draplin who worked with Oregon’s “She Flies With Her Own Wings”.

The Fifty and Fifty State Mottos Project is on exhibit at the Ace Hotel New York‘s gallery space, and will be up until February 1st.
