Feel Good Friday – SuperFeet

When your feet hurt, your whole body hurts. Ever wonder why it feels so good to be barefoot on the beach? Because the human foot was designed to adapt to uneven surfaces. Today we are predominantly walking on concrete, tile, pavement, surfaces our feet don’t adapt to and it is exhausting. That is where the beauty of Superfeet comes into play with it’s three-dimensional insole in your two dimensional shoe.

Superfeet walked onto the scene in 1977 and to get the word out they reached out to skiers but they were reluctant. So they went to Nordica, a ski boot company which began using Superfeet in their boots and it was a great success. Next they contacted the hockey industry big boys, Bauer Skates, and again, success. But how to reach the masses? They developed a ‘trim to fit’ line and boom.

We know you are probably used to the old Dr. Scholl’s insert, but after one week those are about as supportive as tissue paper. Superfeet are based on principles of podiatric medicine. That means they really work. On a personal note, I have a friend who has had foot problems for over a year. The doctor gave him a boot to wear for six months and it still hurt. He finally tried Superfeet and the pain was gone. Testimonial!

The difference is:

  • A structured heel cup
  • Rearfoot support
  • Firm stabilization

While we are all fans of shopping online, we found it best to go to a store that carries Superfeet to get expert advice and try them on before purchasing.

And for the Feel Good aspect, Superfeet has had a giving program for some time. They give 1% back of annual sales to help those in need in their community in Washington but are starting to grow their donation area. There are a lot of people in the outdoor community who work with the non profit, 1% for The Planet, and theirs is similar but Superfeet actually has a donation committee in-house to see where the donations are needed most locally. It’s always important to remember, those in need can be only steps away!

My dad is a diehard New England sports fan, and as a kid, I often worried I'd have to perform CPR on him whenever the Bruins, Patriots, or Red Sox were on television. As livid as a Viking berserker, the old man would leap off the sofa to coach Tom Brady from the living room or rain down curses upon the Yankees. Our cocker spaniel, Fenway, instinctively fled the room whenever my father reached for the remote. The stress of it all, plus the fact that I was missing episodes of South Park, soured me on professional sports.

I finally came around in my thirties, less for the sports themselves than for the spectacle and revelry. I can't name more than two Knicks players, but I had a blast watching the NBA Finals with my buddies at bars across New York. The nuances of Formula 1 are about as intelligible to me as multivariable calculus, but that didn't stop me from partying my face off on a press trip to the Miami Grand Prix. I also write about luxury watches, spirits, and travel—all of which dovetail rather nicely with grand athletic extravaganzas.

I don't know if you noticed, but I am a writer. And as a writer, inspiration comes from everywhere. One of the things I learned quickly was that writers love to read. Reading keeps your brain sharp in the space and also inspires. You never know when a line of dialogue, the perfect twist, or engaging prose will ignite your own creativity. For me, I have always found that inspiration in my favorite authors, and Matthew Quirk is near the top of my list. Of course, when I was given the chance to interview him, I dug into his transition from what I do to what he does now and discovered many inspiring insights that everyone should know. Whether you want to be a writer or not.

Everyone loves a good movie night. Whether you like to get dressed and head to the theater so you can justify the biggest bucket of popcorn and soda you can find for something new, or you are the kind of guy who likes to lie out on the couch for an old faithful, we all love to sit down and allow escapism to take us somewhere more digestible than the real world. Some movies are meant to inspire; others are meant to frighten. There are good bang, bang, shoot 'em ups, roaring comedies, and everything in between. However, movies are also the best teaching tools if you know how to pull the right themes and ideas while watching. Now, this doesn't mean you can get all you need to know from movies, but they are a great jumping-off point for learning some style, solving problems, or navigating adversity. This isn't like every other movie ranking; this one has a specific purpose.

There are thousands of movies in every category below to choose from, and curating your own go-to list will help you elevate your life on your own terms, but here are 15 movies every man should watch soon and often.
